visiting Uwajima Castle during cherry blossoms season is worth it, one of the best castle in japan, the view from above was stunning, I tried to go inside of castle, first you need to pay 200 yen it's worth the price remember japan you need to try everything, inside there was a Samurai armour, a history of this place, an old castle built in century, you can take a picture inside,
outside the castle you can see the cherry blossom tree,
entrance there is a locker if you want to leave you things, just insert 100 yen and when you comeback you can take it again, I was amazed
walking on top is not easy, but there is a two way going on top, the finished cement and the shortcut way but more difficult
refreshing when you reach the castle, but remember to bring your water

Small castle set in beautiful grounds. The walk up to the keep is a little steep and uneven but it is absolutely gorgeous. The path takes you past the remains of impressive castle walls and bamboo groves and forest up to the keep which is set on a flat lawn (public grassy areas are a rare commodity in Japan) with good views over the city and port of Uwajima.
The keep was already closed when I visited in the early evening, but the fact that it is one of Japan's remaining original castles probably makes it worth taking a look inside. The castle was originally located on the sea before land reclamation projects extended the coastline.

A wonderful castle for sure. Highly recommend taking the ramp access which is long way around to the castle. The stairway leading to the castle is pretty steep. The castle is very well maintained as is the grounds that it is on. Definitely a great location to take a picture pretending like the castle is your house. Be aware that there are not many souvenirs for the castle itself. The guide will tell you where you can buy souvenirs in town. There is also a flyer inside giving the address.

Beautiful castle on top of a hill with excellent views. If you want to enter the building, there’s a small fee. There’s also an easy parking lot by the visitor center at one of the entrances where the trail to the castle starts. It’s maybe 1 km hike to the top. There’s a gentle walking trail for most of the way but once you get close to the top, there are a lot of steep stairs with uneven rocks. So be prepared for a good workout and don’t attempt if you have mobility issues.

Loved the quaint and non-touristy vibe to this little gem of a castle. Not a ton to see inside, however I would say the 200 Yen fee is worth if just to support the area.
The path up the hill has a short and long course, depending on if you like to climb stairs or not.
If you are in the area, definitely check it out. This castle is very photogenic and was very peaceful during our visit. Only a handful of people were around.

Went to kumamoto castle before visiting this castle.
This is a small castle, but what interesting is that it did not add new facilities or technology gadgets which allow us to experience the original vibes / experience in the olden time. Including the very steep staircase. The small window space to check the outer side of castle...Close peak on the samurai armor(i think is samurai?)
I heard kumamoto castle used to be like this, but now become more museum-like places where u can only experience things via the technology gadgets.
Anyway, what not good is that if there is "people" not discipline, they may touch or destroy the relics. And I hope everyone who read this will also help to maintain the heritage structure or relic in this building.
And yeah, always the problem in japan is that the English information /description is very limited. Would be good to have some Japanese language skill.
Staffs are all friendly.
Garden /field would need some maintenance. Some part Grasses are high and have water puddles.

Ōzu Castle, located in Ōzu City, Ehime Prefecture, is often referred to as the symbol of “Little Kyoto of Iyo.” The castle’s origins date back to the Kamakura period, and it later became the residence of the Katō and Wakisaka clans during the Edo period. What makes Ōzu Castle remarkable is its wooden reconstruction. In 2004, the four-story tenshu (main keep) was meticulously rebuilt using traditional carpentry methods, based on historical documents and blueprints. This makes it one of the very few castles in Japan authentically restored in wood, offering visitors a genuine glimpse into the architectural spirit of the Edo period. Inside the keep, exhibitions feature local history, samurai armor, and cultural artifacts. From the top floor, visitors can enjoy a sweeping view of Ōzu City and the serene Hiji River. At night, when the castle is illuminated, its reflection on the river creates a romantic and picturesque scene. The surrounding area is also rich in heritage sites, such as preserved samurai residences, traditional townscapes, and the scenic Garyū Sansō villa. Ōzu Castle today is not only a beloved tourist destination but also a symbol of cultural preservation, embodying the craftsmanship and historical legacy of Japanese castles. It serves as a bridge connecting the present with the atmosphere of Edo Japan.

After visiting a couple of castles in Japan this is just another one in the city
Most of Japanese castles look pretty much similar. There isn’t any big noticeable difference in speaking of outlook appearance
And all of them are completely reconstructed too well. Wouldn’t it be better if they just leave the castles the way it has been left ? I think it would be amazing even though it’s only the ruins that we’re looking at.

Amazing with Sakura (cherry blossom) so many of them are the top of the castle compound and amazingly beautiful.
Over looking to the entire Ozu, it’s such a nice view. There is a cafe and sitting area where can sip coffee and enjoy the great view.
I think the cherry blossom is worth 3 out of 5 stars. Without it, it might just be a normal castle. (Just saying I am too much obsessed with Sakura)

Had seen a few Japanese castles, Ozu Castle would be on my must see list. Just have a couple of hours to spare in Ozu, I went to this castle to kill time. It was a nice walk cross the river and up to the castle. Arrived before it was open and was the first visitor of the day. Nothing too special but had good views of the surroundings from the top floor of the castle.

Here, you can enjoy traditional Japanese gardens and architecture.
The Japanese buildings feature various ingenious designs, and we can enjoy learning their secrets through the audio guide.
The atmosphere changes with the seasons, making it a place you'll want to visit multiple times throughout the year. The admission fee is 550 yen, but if you're also planning to visit nearby attractions like Ōzu Castle, the combo set ticket offers a better deal.
The plants within the garden are extremely valuable, and even those that may look like weeds have taken over 100 years to grow. For this reason, when walking through the garden, be sure to stay on the stone paths.

A masterpiece of architecture overlooking the picturesque Hiji river. This was built around 1907, by a Japanese merchant. The design which resembling Kyoto imperial villas such as Katsura Rikyu and Shugakuin Rikyu took 10 years to make. Around 4 years with a number of 9000 artisans were required to construct it. It's only a 30 minutes walk from Ozu castle and one of the best tourist actractions in Ozu. Staff was friendly.

The road was a bit hard to drive, very narrow and also a single lane. Not much parking tho. The place was beautiful and well preserved. You need to pay for every place you visit. So we just choose one place first to see if we would like to continue the others. In the end we just visited one.

Wonderful old building with a lovely garden. When there are few/no people on a fine day it feels so lovely being there and you feel like you could live there forever.
I recommend buying the tickets for all three places as long as you have around 3 hours.

Very nice villa, feel like in another time. Spectacular views and atmosphere. The lady is very nice and explained everything to me, showing me the light tricks and the decorations meanings. 500¥ per adult and 800¥ combined with the Ozu castle (save 200).
