Ronda: A Town That Captivates the Soul
Ronda is nothing short of magical—a town that truly feels like stepping into a living postcard. From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by breathtaking views, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that is simply enchanting.
Puente Nuevo is the undeniable crown jewel of Ronda. This iconic bridge, perched dramatically over the El Tajo gorge, offers views that will leave you speechless. Whether you see it bathed in golden sunlight or glowing softly under the moon, it is a sight that lingers in your memory forever. Walking across the bridge, you feel the weight of history underfoot, and every glance rewards you with panoramic views of the rugged cliffs and lush valleys below.
The people of Ronda are incredibly welcoming, exuding a warmth that makes you feel right at home. Their pride in their town is infectious, and they'll eagerly share tips on the best places to eat, hidden corners to explore, or stories that bring Ronda’s rich history to life.
Then, there are the smells and flavors—oh, the flavors! The air carries a heady mix of blooming flowers, fresh mountain breezes, and the tempting aroma of local delicacies. Whether it’s the perfectly cured jamón, a rich and hearty Ronda wine, or a simple, fresh-baked loaf of bread paired with olive oil, every bite here feels like a celebration of tradition and passion.
The town itself is a feast for the senses. Wander the charming cobblestone streets, lined with whitewashed houses, vibrant flowers cascading from balconies, and lively tapas bars around every corner. Every turn reveals a new surprise: a quaint plaza, a centuries-old church, or a hidden garden oasis.
Ronda is more than just a destination; it’s an experience that touches your heart and soul. Whether you're here for a day or a week, you’ll leave feeling inspired, rejuvenated, and with a deep appreciation for its beauty and charm. A must-visit that deserves all the stars and more!

Beautiful Bridge and is absolutely worth coming and staying a night and enjoying a visit thru the town which has great food as well as multiple historical locations to view. Not to be missed
The Puente Nuevo "New Bridge" is the newest and largest of three bridges that span the 120-metre-deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the city of Ronda, in southern Spain. Completed in 1793, the architect was José Martin de Aldehuela and the chief builder was Juan Antonio Díaz Machuca.
The construction of the newest bridge (the one standing as of 2024) was started in 1759 and took 34 years. There is a chamber above the central arch that was used for a variety of purposes, including as a prison.
During the 1936–1939 civil war both sides allegedly used the prison as a torture chamber for captured opponents, killing some by throwing them from the windows to the rocks at the bottom of the El Tajo gorge. The chamber is entered through a square building that was once the guard-house. It now contains an exhibition describing the bridge's history and construction.
Construction of the previous bridge started in 1735; this was the first attempt to span the gorge at this height. The architects Jose Garcia and Juan Camacho completed the bridge with a single arch design. This bridge was quickly and poorly built; the entire bridge collapsed in 1741, killing 50 people.
Hemingway's novel For Whom the Bell Tolls describes the execution of Nationalist sympathizers early in the Spanish Civil War. The Republicans murder the Nationalists by throwing them from cliffs in an Andalusian village, and Hemingway allegedly based the account on killings that took place in Ronda at the cliffs of El Tajo.

The lady who greeted you at the entrance of the cathedral was incredibly attentive. she informed us about the Cathedral. This is one of the places that everyone who comes to Cadiz should definitely see. It fascinates you with its baroque style. If you are interested in classical paintings, definitely ask the lady at the entrance to give you information about the place where there are thousands of Goya paintings. I found the entrance fee to the cathedral a bit expensive. The cathedral consists of 3 parts. tower, underground and large places of prayer. In general, it is a very well-kept and clean place of worship. The underground section had a theme like being in a current horror movie. So the atmosphere was great. You walk to the tower part and you have the most beautiful view in the city. when you reach the top through the narrow body of the tower. You take a deep breath. By the way, bells ringing for 15 minutes may scare you, be careful 😊

The impression is more it's a museum than a church with a living congregation. The fee of about 7 € gives you access to 1/the exhibition in the Cathedral and the Cathedral, 2/The tower with a great view of the area/Cadiz, 3/The nearby museum of the Catholic Cathedral. In the Cathedral you can read about the Cathedrals story and exhibited objects in Spanish and English, and also an audio track player stick is available + in more languages. It's not a place for prayer as it stands now. The walk up at the spiral pathway in the tower of the Cathedral is interesting and with no steps except just before the top. Here you meet the bells and watch out for your ears each quarter 🔔😉 If you see it all and read and listen to some or more you can easily spend 2 hours in the 3 places. The story is interesting in the overall line, but if you live in lets say Scandinavia you can skip some of the details and people mentioned.

After seeing dozens of cathedrals in Europe you start to get over it.
This cathedral though is worth the effort for two reasons. The small side chapels are easily visible and quite beautiful. Better than many other places. The second is the tower, a fantastic view after a climb up a spiral ramp, with a final 2m climb up a narrow staircase.
Once you are at the top remember the bells ring every 15 minutes. You will still jump even when expecting them!
The tower is accessed from the outside, left of the main entrance.
The interior has some signage in English. The crypt is unusually sparse, but has some old wooden statuary that makes the short climb down worthwhile. A little more signage would make this 5 stars for English speakers.

There are many popular tourism sites in Cadiz however the 18th century Cathedral of Cadiz with it's bell tower and the tomb of Manuel de Falla, is one not to be missed. It sits on the site of an older cathedral, completed in 1260, which burned down in 1596, and was built with money from the trade between Spain and America over 116 years in the period from 1722 to 1838. As well as the beautiful old organs in the choristers area, the Cathedral houses a number of artworks, sculptures and other artifacts from the conquest of the New World. However, most interesting, and a must see, is the Torre de Poniente, the bell tower, which is open to the public and gives you the best views of Cadiz.

This was a gem find of a beautiful exotic garden on the edge of the city. Lots of unusual trees from countries around the world all labelled. Some cati and topiary too. In the centre was a rocky waterfall feature that you could climb up to view the waterfalls and tunnels underneath behind them. Plenty of other water features too. Children would love it. Lots of benches to sit and admire and rest. It was very well maintained with some workers about. At the entrance was a map with key of where to find the various trees. It was very peaceful and relaxing here. We loved it.
