Dam, that's good!
.
We often visit here for an interesting and easy dog walk. I say 'easy' because mostly it is flat, however, some of the path is uneven and muddy after wet weather. The walk is a 3 mile circuit around the edge of the body of water, taking in the Ochil Hills in the background and native woodland.
.
Interesting/Good Points: The parking is currently free. There are also little 'beachy' bits on 2 sides of the lake which make good picnic spots of paddling spots. There are quite a few species of water bird and small woodland birds. It's very scenic and the cinder path is relatively easy to follow. If you do the full circuit you walk past a farm at the far end which is a typical old Scottish structure, and it adds character to the area.
.
Frustrating/Bad points: There currently aren't any toilets and the coffee shop was closed. People tend to congregate at the car park and only walk close to that, so at the start/end there may be more dog walkers and even some horses. The swans expect to be fed and can be aggressive. There are no information signs about the dam, but there is one hidden information sign on the far side about the ruins of an industrial building... an important footpath is missing from Google maps...
.
You can get ALL the way around close to the lake using the cinder track footpaths. After the farm just head up the track and then take you first left, back towards the lake. On Google it only shows the farm track heading away from the lake in an arc then back round adding an extra mile. Ignore this! You can do a nice easy loop, there's just a few signs missing. Top tip: whichever way you choose to walk around the water, always keep it on that side of you and you can't go wrong.
.
Accessibility: Most of the paths are suitable for buggies, although they are not very wide. Don't expect any tarmac areas apart from the carpark. For wheelchair users, you would need to go and find out if your chair can use the paths, but if you're not wanting to do a full circuit, you can still enjoy the massive lake from the side of the dam near the car park as there is a hundred meter stretch that is tarmac.

Parking is easy enough at the Visitor centre, once you've negotiated all the speed bumps on the access road. The lake circular walk is a tranquil easy 3-mile flat circuit of the lake, with a path just good enough to take a mobility scooter. There are plenty of waterfowl of various sorts - I saw a bevy of swans near the Visitor Centre, (perhaps even a lamentation of them?) as they were so noisy! See the third photo.
The downside to the walk is that the very pleasant views of the lake itself and the Ochil hills just above the country park are limited. Most of the lochside path is lined with trees that obscure a scenic view. Watch out for the occasional gaps where you can get a good view of the hills. See photo 1.
The path is narrower, a bit rougher and more stony on the eastern side near the wee farmhouse. The ploughed field in the second photo is presumably the work of that farmer, or his wife.
There are also a number of marked paths leading off into the woodland from the main lochside circuit, but I didn't explore these. It's a pleasant enough way to spend an hour or two. I did the walk all round in an hour and 15 minutes.

We visit here fairly often. Good, easy walking for the most part, a few gentle slopes to deal with if you're walking right round the reservoir. Paths on the Northern side can get a bit muddy. Sunken garden and the southern end of the dam could be nice but generally seems to not be quite as much attention as it deserves.
Usually plenty of wildlife on the water and damselflies in spring/summer.
The route in from the main road through Sauchie runs through a housing estate and is a bit of a weave through parked cars and speed cushions, but don't let that it put you off. There's not a huge amount of parking spaces but we've never found the place full.
The visitor centre and toilets have been closed for the last couple of years, so only three stars (used to be a very chatty lady looking after the place before), but it looks like there's work going on to renovate the building (August 2017).

An enjoyable and picturesque location for a walk in a seemingly unlikely location. We enjoy walkng the dogs here early in the mornings.... rain or shine.
PIt's a shame that there is no visitor centre and that the bird hide is locked up! So much history in this location and it could be better presented, though I suspect the location presents challenges and that's why it's not as good as other attractions such as Lochore Meadows.

We did the circular walk around the reservoir clockwise from the cafe, there is no seating until you get about 1/2 way round and then only dotted seats, but once you get to the sunken garden and the dam there are seats every few yards! Could do with them being spread out! Lots of swans and wildlife and a great place to walk the dogs. Bit dated in some places could do with some TLC but a good walk

A 16 car car park and quite a bit of care if you go past the 3rd waterfall up to Smugglers cave but this area is great for an explore as its slot canyon forms some great geology, walks , water features and interesting wildlife for all to enjoy. Moving from the lower paths and the footing becomes a little more slippy up to the 2nd waterfall where the dam was formed to control water for the mills during the heyday of the hillfoots industry.
Stray from the main paths and you get some great views especially when the spring and Autumn is turning. Its been a long time since i was up here and the area shows some signs of needing extra care but a lot of it has been tamed to some extent without detracting from the natural beauty too much. Also a great access point for entry to a lot of walks across all the hill routes weather permitting as it can become difficult to navigate once your on some of the less known routes higher up

So so sooooo lovely, and we didn't even do the whole walk! Lovely to be outdoor and wooed by the sound of the water. So peaceful. We had 2 young Kiddies and only managed so far - AND with a buggy! It might be the first dam we made it to, we're not sure.... it gets a bit rough after that. The eldest managed the walk too but I had to hold his hand tight. Lots of sheer drops and the hence ain't gonna hold in some part. Some are metal wired so those are not the strongest, the solid metal ones are fine but just don't chance it! They're too curious to what to see what's down there!! There are some staircases but also some slopes so we found the slopes as much as we can and then hubby did all the steps work with the buggy. Like I said, it's doable up until the first dam really so, potentially next time we'll just try and do it without the buggy and see how far again we can go.

This is a truly beautiful place, though plagued by litter…
For many years I’ve seen the Ochils off in the distance and never really ventured in to them. Today that changed and on the whole it was a lovely experience.
We trekked up the Glen with our 6 & 10 yr old who managed the steep paths without too much bother. There’s places where you will definitely want to guide younger children as there’s steep drops, but it’s very doable.
I was really disappointed by the amount of litter, particularly below the benches. I just don’t understand the mindset of people who put the effort into going to these beautiful places, just to then trash them.
There’s some great swimming holes here if you’re willing to try. We went dipping at Smugglers Cave and behind the highest dam. Slightly chilly!

Great for dogs. Wonderful, breathtaking and phenomenal views. Benches throughout the place for enjoy the views.
The entire climb/route is 1miles. Height claimed is 200m. Roughly 1.15min.
Safety rails through the walk. Great for kids, families or individuals. Walk along side the stream.
There is a car park with picnic benches.
Steeped in history with information boards out up for reading. A carved wooden trail for kids to identify along the path.
Gravel path has an incline with stairs and some of the path is stones not paved. Not intense or expensive needed. Wear comfortable sneakers or boots. Path can be damp.
No public toilets or visitors centre. Lots of cafes/restaurants near by. Only a few bins at the start of the trail.

Beautiful waterfalls and a scenic hike up the Glen to a stunning viewpoint at the top. The lower sections of the walk are easily accessible by most however the second section of the path upwards into the hills can be treacherous, especially if accompanied by young children. Dog walkers should also take care.
If you manage to ascend to the top you will find an overlook onto Smugglers cave (pictured). It is possible to climb down but the path is steep and muddy. In the opposite direction is a path leading up, over and down again to the car park. Again, this path is treacherous and should be avoided with young children.
The walk should take around 45 minutes to 1 hour to the top and approximately 30 minutes back down again.
