Just to be clear, AREA 15 is awesome and a lot of fun. I have been before and we decided to celebrate my friends birthday there with a group of 11 people and bought level 2 passes. (Totally worth it.)
The reason for 1 star is because things closed early when they said they would be open until 11pm and we even asked to make sure that we could plan everything accordingly. The AXE throwing decided to close early with no reason and we were so excited to do it because it was our first time getting the opportunity. Sucks that we paid over $1,000 as a group between drinks and tickets and we didn’t get do certain things because they just decided they were going to close early.
On top of that, we went to Wink World as our last attraction at 10:30pm. (Our friends told us Wink was cool so we were excited to go) The employee (Mateo I think) that was working the attraction ruined the entire experience for us. We waited at the front watching him vacuum the hallway while making eye contact with us but not acknowledging us or saying anything. I stepped back to the zip line employees and asked if the attraction was still open and they said it should be so we waited some more. Finally the guy walked up to the front and scanned our tickets and then the tense interaction started. Didn’t give us any clear directions as to what we were supposed to do and acted like he didn’t want to be there. He just said don’t touch the paintings and enjoy the art. We walked in and decided to take a picture in the giant mirror with the cool art behind us for our friends bday and her back accidentally touched the picture and he aggressively/rudely yelled from the front “don’t touch the pictures.” Seemed like he was having a bad day so we said “sorry.” It was a complete accident, the hallway is tight and we didn’t realize her back was touching it. (Completely our fault, but the way he spoke to us was terrible.)We then continued down the hallway and got to the end where the spinning wheels were and we weren’t sure what we were supposed to do since he didn’t tell us any other directions. We continued into the room at the end of the hallway and he then yelled at us again aggressively from the front “don’t go in there, you need to stop at the end. If you guys can’t follow directions then I will just kick you out.” We were confused because we didn’t get any directions and didn’t understand why he was being so aggressive so we just kept quiet. After he stopped yelling at us like we were children he told us to go in the first room. By the time we got into the first room we were tense and felt like we couldn’t enjoy the attraction because we felt like we were going to do something wrong and get kicked out. At the end of the attraction I went up to him and said “I apologize if you are having a bad day but your directions were unclear and you talked to us very poorly” and his response was him just laughing and with a smug face he said “just go.” I tried to say we wanted to look around the store and he cut me off by picking up his radio and threatening to call security. We were so upset/confused by this interaction that I went down and told the help desk.
Her name was Carmen and if it wasn’t for her we would have left very upset. She smoothed things over with us and apologized for the interaction. Thank you Carmen for having such outstanding customer service and...
Read moreCame here tonight to see a concert at Area 15 at The Portal. When I purchased my tickets I didn't see an option for ADA, which I need because I have severe arthritis and no cartilage in my knee which makes it painful to stand up for long periods of time. I saw on Area 15's FAQ that they are ADA compliant, but I didn't see anything for concerts specifically. I tried to find a phone number to inquire and there isn't one to get in touch with anybody. They had an online AI web chat where they said there was ADA seating for The Portal, but I still didn't know where to go to ask for it.
Arrived at Area 15 and asked one of the security guards before entering where I could go for ADA and he told me once doors opens to come find him and he'd help me. People started forming in a line so I went to find him at the front of the line and he told me I had to stand in the line and he was going to radio to ask about ADA and he would come find me in line. A few minutes passed and he came to find me near the end of the line and told me that once I get to the front he'd direct me where to find ADA. (Again as someone in need of ADA, it can be hard to stand in a long line, but I complied to not make things more difficult) I get to the front of the line and another security guard escorted me to the doors and told me to wait here while someone comes to us. We waited several minutes and out finally came a girl with a barstool and goes "Okay heres the chair you asked for." I was confused and I asked her what I should do with it because I've never gone through something like this. She said I can put it somewhere off to the side. My husband thankfully was with me to help me carry the chair, (Again not everyone needing ADA has someone else to help them or can carry a chair for themselves. Again thankfully my husband was there to help me.) We awkwardly walked over to the side of the venue with the barstool in hand and sat it down. But it being a barstool and also the barstool had really skinny legs, I couldn't sit on it because of my bad knee and it also didn't look stable enough to carry my weight, so I couldn't even use it. I did my best to stand for the rest of the concert but I am in a lot of pain because of it. There were several couches that were sectioned off that didn't get used the entirety of the show. I included a picture of the barstool they gave me and in the other picture I circled where my chair is adjacent to the empty sofa chairs.
It's upsetting to see that this is their only option for ADA. Even with me trying to contact them in advance, continuing to follow up before the show, and trying to talk to different employees, they didn't seem prepared to have to accommodate someone whose in need of ADA seating. Also by bringing up the couches they had, I am not saying I am entitled to use or sit on the couches, but if there is room for several rows of empty couches there could be a couple normal (Not barstool chairs) for a ADA section. I hope that they fix this in the future and add a section in their venues and in their website to clarify for people who are looking to attend concerts in the future who are in need of ADA seating. So a heads up to anyone who needs ADA trying to see...
Read moreWhat's better than driving to a secured desert area, where the likelihood of discovering aliens is less than zero? Checking out a famous Vegas attraction where aliens are the norm! Area 15 is a sci-fi interactive experience where people enter into a brightly colored world that invites you to unveil its wacky secrets.
You could bring family & friends here to spend an entire day solving mysteries, eating good food, and partying to music like hip-hop, techo, etc. This is a spot that is encouraged to be explored thoroughly, thus it may not be suitable for those who have joint pains, as certain areas involve going up stairs and climbing. There are also locations that have strobe lights and blasting music that may harm people who have seizures or are sensitive to noises. Additionally, young children could become overstimulated by the noises and lights, as I noticed with a family that had four children ranging between 3-6 years old.
If you are still interested in going, then I highly suggest you start off by walking through the OmegaMart. It's so big, you can't miss it; it is the most popular attraction in Area 15, and for good reason. It goes beyond just a market with supernatural elements; you can choose to buy a card to uncover the mysteries that are locked inside the store. This could take many hours to complete, so be comfortable in your walking shoes and have a motivated friend or two at your side. But to clarify, this is all OPTIONAL; I never bought a card and I still had an amazing time looking around the place. Just walking around took roughly 3-4 hours, so solving a mystery wasn't my intention as I simply didn't have that much time.
There are more special attractions to try, like the Indoor Zip Line which is a huge hit among visitors. You can also visit the trippy Wink World Museum, take a personality test at Brainstorm, or shop for souvenirs at their various stores. If family-friendly isn't your style, then there are 21+ areas for you to hang out at. This includes an arcade bar and special music events.
Several reviews have mentioned that the customer service was unsatisfactory. That is unfortunate, because my experience had no issues with staff at all. Everyone was kind, no attitudes, so hopefully whoever gave the others a hard time improved their behavior or were fired.
I would come here again with anybody who's hyped for a good time. It's far away from the Vegas Strip & Fremont Street; Area 15 is like its own little planet where you can open your mind to wondrous possibilities. It's delightfully quirky and...
