Visited 12/28/24. This was by far the most disappointing meal of my entire trip to Argentina. To start, the service was abysmal. I certainly have empathy for busy restaurant staff, but not one single time that I interacted with the servers here took place without me flagging one of them down (after multiple attempts). We had heard great things about this restaurant and were really excited to try their king crab soup and crab risotto.
Bear in mind that the king crab soup costs 5.000 more than a plate full of pure crab meat. We expected the soup to have pieces of crab meat (similar to a bisque), but were disappointed that the “crust” was cracker thin, and the soup was merely a crab broth, with virtually no crab meat at all. Aside from that, the two other appetizers we ordered, fried shrimp and vegetable bruschetta (meant to be warm due to the melted cheese), came out cold, and were very unpleasant as a result. We expressed our disappointment in the soup to the servers who were extremely rude in saying that their soup was made perfectly, and our expectations were unrealistic.
When the entrees arrived, our excitement for the risotto had faded. Though that was very good (lots of crab meat), the burger was unfortunately beyond well done and hard to eat to the point we took two bites and left the rest. When we raised this to the waitress’s attention, she expressed this was how the kitchen cooks their burgers to the mandatory doneness regardless of preference. We had ordered burgers two other occasions throughout our journey and neither had expressed that well done was a mandatory doneness to be edible. To add salt to the wound, we were virtually ignored from here on out. We couldn’t even get a waitress to pay enough attention to us to ask for a fork.
We finally asked for the check as the dining experience had been ruined. We didn’t even receive the receipt to look over as the manager/waitress had rushed over to our table with the card reader in hand to hastily clear us out of the table (shockingly it was the most attentive she had been to us the entire evening). She had done nothing to reconcile the visit and so both I and my husband again expressed our disappointment. She finally offered measly tea or coffee. Nothing could have made the experience better.
I highly recommend you give your business to one of the many wonderful restaurants in Ushuaia, of which Kuar 1900 is not. Don’t waste...
Read moreWe stopped for some early evening drinks before dinner. We had friends with us on their first visit to Argentina. This was their first experience in a restaurant/bar. Sadly, it was not a good experience. First, my wife ordered a gin tonic with orange. They brought one with lemon. Okay, they changed it, for another where the tonic was flat. Then I ordered two rubia cervezas, perhaps not their fault, but I didn’t like the flavor. We thought about having dinner there, but if they can’t get simple drinks right, I didn’t want to trust them with my food. I rarely give such poor marks to an establishment, but I was embarrassed for my friends. Maybe they will be better for you, most others give...
Read moreWe waited over an hour for our food (hamburger) while everyone else in the restaurant got theirs. We discussed with the staff that we had to make our ship and they told us it would be out in five minutes. We continued to wait and eventually had to walk up to the bar to pay for the water and one beer. Pretty much ignored by our server. They attempted to charge us 20,000 including bread and a dip that we had not asked for or eaten. There was no adjustments and min apologies. I would not suggest this place. They also have a musician who played two songs and then harassed every table in the restaurant for tips. We had to say no thank you...
