Benny's American Burger - Hindley Street — Restaurant in Adelaide

I try a lot of burgers, and I have to say this was a little... dissatisfying. It was a Monday night so not very busy, service was quick. Only took around 15 minutes for the food to come out which is nice and quick. The flavour? Not very good. The burgers are quite plain and not even their house sauce could hide the bland taste. The meat lacks lots of flavour and was quite dry. The bread was also a very cheap bread but I guess you wouldn’t expect much else considering the price. My friend and I were commenting the whole time how bland we thought the burgers were which was a shame. Another major issue is the place was very unsanitary and covered with bugs. Behind us the wall had several mosquitos just sitting there which made me feel really uncomfortable. Also there was two flies swarming around us the whole time. Tables were left uncleaned, all of them. No wonder flies were around. People who had left probably hours before we arrived hadn’t had their tables cleaned up and bits of sauce and crumbs were still covering tables. Not a good look... Also, the atmosphere wasn’t that great. The music was unusual, set to some dubstep/house playlist that just played heavy bass remixes of songs, including a remix of some classical wedding songs!? Hard to enjoy a meal in a place filled with not many people and awkward hard bass music. The good things about this place though is that the price is very good, you get a lot for a meal for a fraction of the price. Also the seasoning on the fries had nice flavour. Lots of improvements...

I ordered a double beef burger on the Saturday night with 2 other friends.

I then proceed to have some seriously vile food poisoning, we talking aching guts, the runs etc.

Burger and fries where good, nice size, good flavour.

The last 2 days I have had severe food poisoning since then. I literally spent a whole day on the toilet not being able to trust my body.

Tried calling to talk to them about it, and basically got shunted off the first time on the Sunday by a staff member who said the manager was not there, and they would call me back. They didn't give me a name, or call me back. Pretty disappointing.

Called again Monday, got through to someone, explained what happened and they apologized but it was pretty attrocious, shitty apology and they offered nothing else.

I would not advise eating there, and honestly, if someone gets food poisoned from your resteraunt and tells you, you should figure out how you would rectify the problem and make the customer feel heard and validated.

When you look through other low star reviews, you can see multiple other people reporting over time similar incidents with similar shitty responses.

I would have been happy with a basic apology and...

I went to the Adelaide branch as I have tried the hamburgers at Glenelg and they were delicious. However I ordered the Chilli Hotdog as it stated cheese kransky with beef chilli, cheese and mustard and it was disappointing. The beef chilli in the hot dog is a bland paste spread on the hotdog bun and not actually a beef chilli. I explained to the server that it was not beef chilli and ought not to be called beef chilli as its misleading. American beef chilli is made of beef mince with red kidney beans and tomato and spices and if this is branded as American (Benny's American Burger)then it needs to be as authentic as the American Chilli Dog. The server kept arguing with me and was very rude. The taste was horrible I had to throw it in the bin- waste of $ 9.90. Not going to that place any more. I try to frequent local business as many of these places suffered during Covid however if they cannot give the customer good service and listen to their feedback then they don't deserve...
