We were really looking forward to our dinner at the The Little Hunter and were disappointed from the moment we entered till after leaving the restaurant. We had an 8pm reservation and we waited at the entrance as a large group was trying to settle their bill by splitting it and whilst there were many wait staff none had the courtesy to seat us. I asked one of them after waiting for 10mins to seat us only to be told we had to wait for the lady settling the bill for the large group. Eventually at 8:15 she showed us to the table telling us last orders are at 8:30pm. I would have thought a "Thanks for waiting" or "Sorry to keep you waiting" may have been more appropriate when we were seated 15mins late even though the table was available and we arrived on time for our booking. Anyway so we quickly placed our orders and whilst ordering I asked the lady who served us whether we'd be able to order desserts later or should I order them with our mains since the hostess had told us last orders at 8:30. She told us that only the food needed to be ordered prior to 8:30 and we could order desserts after we finished our mains. I ordered a salad with my steak which I never got but I didn't want to fuss over it so had salad from my sons kids meal. After our mains I asked another wait staff for the dessert menu as the lady who took our order initially wasn't to be seen. He then advised me he'd have to check with the kitchen and returned to tell us we couldn't order dessert. At this point I was thoroughly disappointed and so decided to politely let him know about how poor the service had been from the get go and there wasn't much of a reaction from him and I felt I was talking to a lamp post. My husband then paid the bill and we left at about 9pm. I realised later after arriving back to our hotel they charged us for the salad I never received. I rarely ever give bad reviews but coming from Melbourne where we are spoilt for choice with food in terms of quality and service, this was a pretty pathetic experience and an evening wasted which we would have much enjoyed elsewhere during our visit to Adelaide. I would not recommend this place to anyone as their service...
Read moreSadly the worst experience I have had in a steak restaurant. Started off with the host at reception being very rude and miserable on arrival when letting her know the name of our booking. We were then shown to our seat which was right next to the door when asked if we could move over one to be away from the draft the response was no as they where fully booked. While looking at the menu someone had left a tap running filling a water bottle at the bar next to us and it was like a waterfall none stop pouring onto the floor. I shouted to the women again at the front desk which I received another death stare and ignored. She then walked around and thought infront of the whole restaurant when the other waitress returned that it was a good idea to start mouthing off which was made worse with the second staff member also letting her feelings felt back.
Next our bottle of wine arrived and dumbed on our table not poured out into the glasses which you would expect from a table service restaurant. We also thought it was very strange being a steak joint that they also don’t have any Shiraz on their wine list.
When our mains came sadly it didn’t get any better, my eye fillet that I order medium well came out rare and was the most fatty eye fillet I have ever had. This seemed to be a problem as I over heard a couple behind me also say their steaks were not cooked right.
When someone took out plates away he didn’t ask how was our meal just asked if we would like to look at the desserts which my partner and I decided not to risk and declined which was actually lucky as 2 mins later our waitress came over to tell us we only had 5 mins left and would I like her to bring over the card machine. I understand we have a booking time and the importance or table turn over but what made this even more amusing was the table next to us that we asked to swap to at the beginning was still empty as well as other tables.
I can truly say that the service and food were terrible and we will not be returning again. If you like steak I would definitely recommend going to the 3 others in Adelaide that are leaps and bounds better...
Read moreAfter my beautiful bride wrapped up her first day at a conference, I wanted to surprise her with a memorable dinner. Hassan, from the Grosvenor Hotel, highly recommended Little Hunter Steak and Ale, just a short walk from the Adelaide Convention Centre.
I made a 5:30 pm reservation through their website’s easy-to-use booking system, and after a quick five-minute stroll, we arrived—eager and hungry. We weren’t disappointed.
Being from north of Sydney, near the Central Coast, we’ve developed a real appreciation for fresh oysters. So when we saw a dozen Kilpatrick oysters for only $29 (we usually pay over $40!), it was a no-brainer. They were sensational—fresh, succulent, and packed with flavour. Paired with their garlic bread, it was a perfect start.
Then came the highlight: the steaks. My wife’s Angus eye fillet was so tender and flavourful that her eyes rolled back in delight as she let out a happy sigh. She looked at me and declared, “This is the best steak I’ve ever had—by far!”
My scotch fillet was equally impressive—beautifully seasoned, perfectly cooked, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The sides of mushrooms and carrots were fresh, vibrant, and cooked to perfection.
Adding to the experience was the background playlist—smooth 80s classics from bands like A Flock of Seagulls and Tears for Fears. It was the perfect nostalgic touch that brought a relaxed and upbeat energy to the evening.
If we had to point out one small drawback, it would be the limited dessert menu—we were secretly hoping for a sticky date pudding! But honestly, that’s just wishful thinking, not...
