An Exquisite Culinary Adventure at Gin Long Canteen
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gin Long restaurant in North Adelaide, and let me just say, it was an absolute delight from start to finish! From the warm and inviting ambiance to the impeccable service, this place truly exceeded all my expectations.
Let's dive right into the star of the show - the food! The lobster slider was a succulent masterpiece. The tender lobster perfectly complemented the soft, buttery bun, creating a heavenly combination of flavors. It was an elegant twist on a classic dish and left me craving more!
Next up, the lamb ribs. Oh my goodness, these were simply divine! The meat was incredibly tender, practically falling off the bone, and the sticky, sweet glaze added a delightful burst of flavor. Each bite was a tantalizing journey to flavor town!
The pork belly salad was a true work of art. The crispy, melt-in-your-mouth pork belly paired wonderfully with the fresh greens and zesty dressing. It was a perfect balance of textures and flavors that left me feeling satisfied and energized.
The pomegranate chicken was a revelation. The succulent chicken pieces were cooked to perfection, and the tangy pomegranate glaze added a delightful twist. It was a harmonious blend of sweet and savory that left my taste buds dancing in joy.
Now, let's talk about the curry soft shell crab. This dish was a revelation! The crab was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfectly complemented by the aromatic curry sauce. The flavors were bold, yet well-balanced, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs at Gin Long.
Lastly, the coconut rice was the ideal accompaniment to the incredible array of flavors on offer. Fragrant, fluffy, and with just the right hint of coconut, it provided the perfect base for the dishes and elevated the entire dining experience.
The overall dining experience at Gin Long was nothing short of exceptional. The attention to detail, the impeccable flavors, and the warm hospitality of the staff made it a truly memorable evening. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends, Gin Long is the place to be!
I highly recommend Gin Long restaurant to anyone seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure. Book a table, sit back, and prepare your taste buds for a delightful journey. You won't be disappointed!

O’Connell Street doesn’t exactly scream Bangkok night market. But step through Gin Long’s doors, and suddenly you’re someplace else-louder, brighter, more alive. The air hits you with lemongrass, chilli, smoke. The kind of place where you know the food will speak first and the service will back it up without missing a beat.
We kicked off with chicken satay-charred skewers dunked in a peanut sauce so rich and fiery it made every bottled “satay” back home taste like glue. Vegetarian spring rolls came out blistered and golden, snapping apart to release steam and flavour. Prawn dumplings swam in red curry sauce-velvety, fragrant, unapologetically Thai.
Then the surprise act: salt and pepper eggplant. Crisp shell, molten interior, a balance of spice and crunch that made it impossible not to go back for more. The vego yellow curry? Smooth, mellow, comfort in a bowl. A dish that didn’t need to shout, but still carried the room.
From there, things got serious. Pork belly so soft it collapsed under the fork, lacquered with a soy glaze that stuck to your teeth in the best possible way. Barramundi with skin fried to armour, flesh flaky as confetti, and a chilli dressing that didn’t play around.
By the time the beef kuey teow landed-wide rice noodles tangled with tender beef and smoky Chinese sausage-we were in deep. Rich, savoury, a dish built for appetite not politeness.
Gin Long pulls off that rare trick: food that’s bold without being bludgeoning, service that’s warm without being staged, atmosphere that hums with energy but never drowns you. For one night on O’Connell Street, we weren’t in Adelaide-we were on a street corner in Southeast Asia, chasing spice and smoke.

Service was excellent. Staff are friendly, quick and attentive.
Order to serve time was very quick. Granted it wasn't too busy when I went at lunchtime on a weekday.
Ambiance & seating options are quirky and unique. There are tables for groups and also seating at the bar if you're alone. Nice casual dine in atmosphere but would certainly also cater to dinner dates/group dinners. The kitchen is visible to patrons and is interesting and authentic to hear the sounds of food being made as well as see the chefs in action.
I had the dry noodles lunch special. The soup was luke warm which I would have preferred hot. Both the noodles and soup were a bit on the salty side. The noodle bowl was light and fresh and had a number of quality ingredients in it such as quail eggs, prawns, pork, etc. Serving size was neither small nor large, probably average.
The lunch specials are excellent value at only around $12 for a quality meal. Not sure about the main dining options as they are definitely more expensive.
UPDATE: Ive now had the dry noodles twice, second time had less meat and the soup was still luke warm. Sometimes the noodles clump together and are hard to seperate. Delicious and excellent nonetheless. Also have tried the sour and spicy pho, which I was very impressed with, it was a great twist on a classic dish and definitely would recommend it. Will be back for this one on a cold day! I do observe that sometimes at lunch, they could use with...
