I was on holiday in Adelaide visiting a friend and this was a café she had highly recommended to me so naturally I had to come and try for myself.
I came on a sunny Tuesday morning for brunch before heading to the beach for a nice sunbathing session. It was fairly quiet, just a few other customers. I really liked the interior design and the vibes as soon as I walked in, modern and relaxing with nice pop music in the background.
I was greeted by the friendly owner who was making a coffee, who offered me a menu and asked me to sit wherever I wanted. I decided on my food and drink choices pretty quickly, asy friend gave me recommendations before and I had also already checked out their menu online. However, I waited a while and no one came to take my order. I was trying to signal the waitress a few times but she was always chatting behind the coffee bar and wasn't really working, which made me think she was slightly unprofessional. Eventually she came and took my order but honestly she really should have come earlier.
Coffee came first before food. I loved the latte art on top of the flat white, an adorable swan which was creative of the owner. It was nice and strong, hands down the best coffee I have had in Adelaide! I ordered the fried soft shell crab croissant with scrambled eggs and salad inside. Wow - it was absolutely mind-blowing! The croissant was so so crispy and flaky that every bite I had was so messy but so good at the same time! I loved how they toasted the croissant before serving to maintain that flakiness, really amazing texture! The soft shell crab with the sriracha mayo was top-notch, went so well together and was flavourful. The scrambled eggs inside were smooth and fluffy, just a fantastic dish all around!
Out of all the cafes I have been to in Adelaide, this is the only one that offers both actually good coffee and food. Highly recommend for anyone looking for some tasty brunch and...
Read moreI’m surprised more people don’t know about this place . It’s on Gilbert Street, down the road from Prohibition Gin , a few streets away from the Central Markets . When my friend and I went , it wasn’t so busy , and some staff were busy talking to what I assume were regulars . The coffee was the maple blend from ONA, which I’d never heard of before , but they seem to be passionate about sourcing sustainable beans . The blend was Maple , which is touted to having caramel , biscuits , nuts and spices . The milk was silk smooth , with a slight fruity aroma but the aftertaste was slightly sweet maple . Really enjoyed this brew ! I couldn’t see any major gf options ( I always look for the unusual things , and they have a good menu - soufflé pancakes and katsu sandos - yum , but unfortunately not gf ) but they did do a GF burger for me - it surpassed my expectations! It had two patties, and they were obviously made on the premises , as they were juicy had so much flavour . The shoestring fries came with Parmesan cheese over the top . I’d seriously rate this up there with good burgers in Adelaide. My friend had one of the doughnuts from the local Butter and Toast - he really enjoyed it . The staff were accommodating and friendly, and it had a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a place to...
Read moreWe were very disappointed. We arrived and ordered coffees with a plate of smashed avocado on toast and fluffy pancakes. Not only did the staff appear confused about what table to bring food to each time they came outside, but we waited 45 minutes for the smashed avocado on toast and never got our pancakes. Asked two staff how long it would be - they said they’d let us know and they never came back to tell us anything. We went in to pay after waiting for 1hour 15 minutes. While at the counter they said our pancakes were ready - obviously we told them we couldn’t eat them and therefore were not paying for them. The annoying thing wasn’t just the wait and the mixup, but the service was poor - they should have let us know how long it would be and not just ignore the issue. They could have compensated with a free coffee at least!
They need to label their tables and find a better way to place orders to the kitchen.
Overall the coffee and avocado on toast were great. Disappointed that we could not try the pancakes as they...
