What has happened to this place lately??
I have been in the HOSPO industry since I could basically walk. Coming from a long line of family PUBLICANS, and growing up in both my parents and their siblings (my aunts and uncles) pubs all over South Australia, I know what good food is and I know what happy, content and experienced FOH staff look likeā¦. and yet this last visit, compared to my last three recent visits, I have to say THERE WAS NO LOVE ON THAT DINING FLOOR AND EVERYONE APPEARED STRESSED WITH NO IDEA OF ANYTHING I ASKED ABOUT. I am GF and have numerous allergies and the last 3 visits where always met with my fave Hostess Larna, who would talk me through the whole process and appeared to love her jobā¦. After asking if she was on, so as to serve my table, I was told, very nastily, very unprofessionally, by a dark haired girl with a slight accent and whom I had never been served by before, whom, to be very honest, appeared more interested in flirting with her male colleagues behind the bar, breasts showing via what we as true Publicans, would consider as HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE ATTIRE, she replied āoh she is no longer with usā, then off the rude the girl went, did not return and so we had to go to the bar to order , despite it being āfull table serviceā???
Food was OK, but seriously, has gone down in quality the last 2 visits so god knows what is going on with their the kitchen staff.
All in all, after the news they have extended their business to another 2 other venues, this, #Thedukeofbrunswick⦠once one of my most favourite places to dine, just sank to my probably my least favourite.
This is so sad, as the full GF menu was something that I looked forward to. As an extremely busy business manager and lover of eccentric bubbly environments with amazing food, this once amazing petite and friendly pub has lost its...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSooo happy!! It's so nice to be able to eat out for once in my life without getting sick. Being a celiac and having an entire family who has to be wheat and dairy free is truly challenging at the best of times. We either go hungry or end up really sick from a lot of places who claim they are safe to eat from (but aren't), this is the first ACTUAL celiac friendly place. Yes I've tried a few things from the menu before I decided to write this review, just to test if I would react and not once did I end up unwell. I can't rave on enough about this joint. The best part is they don't compromise on flavour or portion sizes. In fact every meal I've had has left me full (which is a big shock as we usually have to pay double the menu price and have to buy twice the amount to be satisfied as most portions are very small. Leaving us paying 4x the amount š) and shocked that its gluten free. The only thing I would have to complain about is they get annoyed when you say gluten free when you order. They tell you to stop saying it as the entire menu is gluten free. But it's a habit that's not going to die any time soon. So a little more patience or ignorance regarding this would be appreciated. But this is nothing!! I would put up with the staffs frustration just to be able to eat out with friends and family again. DEFINITELY TRY THIS PLACE, WORTH IT!! Service is decent too. Atmosphere was nice and quiet inside, was good to be able to talk...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food is good, but the main attraction is that it is the only totally gluten free place open in the evenings, so there is no competition. They do get busy, and the staff don't deal with this very well. I rang and asked if I could order a meal takeaway, and the person on the other end of the phone said "We are extremely busy and I don't have time to take your order. Ring back in 15". I get if the kitchen is backed up, or the restaurant has stopped taking orders altogether, or if there is a bit of a wait for a meal. But do you know how long it takes to "take an order"? - about two minutes usually. And this guy didn't have two minutes? Didn't even ask if I could hold - which I would have done. When I rang back 15 minutes later, the answering machine was on and it was impossible to order. Anyone else want to start a fully gluten free restaurant/pub in Adelaide? You could make a rocking profit - while being as rude as you like. In response to your response: You could employ more staff for the busy periods. You have a second bar area - employ extra staff and open the second bar if you are "4 deep". I don't believe that you actually were "4 deep", because you couldn't fit four layers of people between the bar and the wall/tables in your main bar space. Busyness doesn't excuse rudeness. If you tell people to ring back, answer the phone. Don't worry, you will become less busy soon. Just keep being...
