Marina Sunset Bar — Restaurant in Adelaide

Nice drinks and decent food but our day at Sunset bar was spoilt and cut short by a very rude bar manager. Upon realising a drink was mistakenly given to our table and was subsequently drunk, the manager approached our table twice in a rude and threatening demeanour. He began blaming us for the drink mistake and attempted to recover the cost of the drink. By this point our table of 6 had ordered a selection of cocktails and food in excess of $300 worth and were awaiting our lunch. Whilst we acknowledged that the drink was mistakenly given to our table, he failed to take any responsibility for the mistake made by the bar tender. When my friend went to collect her drink, she was given two drinks. She actually informed the bar tender that it was not her drink and the bartender responded by telling my friend it was meant for someone on her table and told her to take the drink. The bar manager was aggressive, accusatory, unprofessional and failed to take any ownership for the error that was made by a bar staff member. I’ve been to Sunset Bar several times in the past with no issues, but my experience on July 5th was extremely disappointing. I ordered three drinks that should have cost $38 but was charged $90 — an overcharge of $52. I raised this with a manager on the night, who was initially helpful and advised me to message him if the charge went through so they could refund the full amount. I have a witness.

After confirming the charge, I followed up multiple times over the next 24 days with no response. I even returned to the venue, where I was again assured (in front of another witness) that a full refund would be issued for the inconvenience. Eventually, I received only the $52 refund.

On my seventh follow-up, I was dismissed and told that they had only ever offered store credit, not a full refund — which is complete nonsense. I have a witness from that second visit who clearly heard the promise of a full refund.

We took up a Groupon offer and celebrated a 30th Birthday here! Unfortunately, due to a unexpected family situation we were slightly down on numbers for the offer. However, staff were understanding. They also did their best to accommodate seating for the older members of our party! The Groupon offer was supposed to be equivalent to their $462 (20 people) dollar deal! Non of the platters in any way resembled the photo in the ad. The deal also said we would have staff for 4hrs and we took that to mean we would have someone taking drink orders and keeping our table clear! That wasn’t the case! The food was tasty but average type platters! As something different it was enjoyable. However, considering the vast choices for food venues in Adelaide I would find it difficult to pay the full price of around $460 for this deal.
