[REVIEW EDITED BELOW TO ADDRESS OWNER'S FEEDBACK]
The food looked great, but the taste was sad. We ordered two dishes:
Mild spicy pork ramen flavor was just sad. Egg was overcooked, pork was kinda cold, broth was not flavorful, all I could taste was chilly oil and not much else. I have had better instant ramen than this.
Bite size pork + pork loin was an odd dish, because it looked amazing, the pork was hot and crispy, but, it had absolutely no flavor.... Don't know if the chef forgot to season the dish or it was just supposed to be plain, there was no sauce served with the dish. There was three sauces (tonkatsu, kewpie, and something else) on the table originally, but none went well with the tonkatsu.
So overall, disappointing experience, would not come back.
[Update:] As a background bonus, I have been to Japan on a trip with my Japanese friend (who has lived there for 5+ years), and we went on a food trip for a whole week, may not sound like much, but mind you these are the local favorites, not the popular ones catered to foreigners taste. Ramen was my favourite dish so I can sincerely tell you, not for drama, that your ramen broth, meat, and noodles were extremely disappointing. If the eggs don't appear to be overcooked to you after quite a few comments have mentioned so, then I don't know what to say. No one said that your food wasn't freshly made, it was just not to the liking of a more specific group of customer. We entered your restaurant precisely because of the previous good customer reviews, but we found it extremely disappointing to get what we did, and hence our low rating. As for your reply to our feedback, it was dismissive, uncessary, and defensive. Instead of addressing my feedback, you mentioned "egg is not overcooked, our food is fresh. If our food is bad then why do we have a high sell volume each day? Maybe if you had experience authentic Japanese tonkatsu before, you would know...", yeah unfortunately I have experienced these dishes in Japan before, multiple times, and yours was just extremely lacking in comparison. At the end of the day, we PAID for your product and was disappointed, instead of apologizing for us having a bad experience and address how to improve, you questioned our opinions and experiences. By the way, the only thing that my partner enjoyed throughout our the meal was the cabbage next to...
Read moreThis isn’t super relevant but I came here because my flight was cancelled (and I had to stay an extra night in Adelaide), so keep in mind I was in a bit of a mood when I got here.
I was researching nice but decently priced food options in Adelaide and this is one that came up and was open on a Sunday. Upon arriving, they were very friendly and seated me quickly. The girl asked if I’d been there before and then explained the ordering system (QR Codes). After ordering, I noticed that it was very cold (I was positioned right in front of the A/C duct) and I had to put a puffer jacket on in 24 deg weather lol. One of the ladies noticed and kindly said that I could sit in the booth area, which is designed to seat 4 people. As I was alone, I was a bit uncertain, but she reassured me that they weren’t too busy so it was okay (they had pretty much every seat full except two booths).
The food came relatively quickly and was presented beautifully. The tonkatsu chicken was on a little cooling rack, to prevent it from getting soggy. The meal itself was delicious, with everything complementing each other really well. I was so happy with it (and it really made my day, after a variety of not so good things happening). The lady here really showed care and empathy, and I really appreciate it. If I am ever in Adelaide again, or if any of my friends/family come to Adelaide, I’ll definitely recommend they come...
Read moreReally good tonkatsu! We didn't have a booking, so we ended up waiting 40 minutes. We were there early (6pm) and first in the queue so we got a seat before 7pm. It was worth the wait, but I would recommend booking in advance as the queue became quite a long one and people waited over an hour. The 'bite-size' tonkatsu pieces are actually full-sized. I guess it is advertised as bite-size because it's the whole piece is cut into bite-sized pieces. The presentation, tastiness and value for size of the meals were excellent, in my opinion. The restaurant has a fir good number of seating, including booths and they accommodated big groups of up to 8 people when we were there. The walls were decorated with a Japanese motif - Mt Fuji, geiko/maiko in kimono. The vibe was bustling and got a bit loud as customers got excited about their meals. The staff were efficient and polite, even though they were swept-off-their-feet busy. I would recommend for people to try Tonkatsu and enjoy their very tasty and...
