My partner and I were looking for somewhere different to go out for dinner, we searched through a few options and Baja didn’t have a single bad review in the last few months, which is a hell of a thing to achieve, so we decided to go here
The setting is very nice although it was quite quiet as it was during mid week, I imagine it must get pretty busy over the weekend.
The food was great, but the standout was actually probably the service. Both the staff members were very attentive without being overly intrusive. I forget the males name, apology, but he took time to explain the menu, recommendations and went into a nice amount of detail about the food and some of the vision of the restaurant.
We went for the banquet adding on the extra protein, the crab tostada and the pork croquette (wanted to try everything and I’m clearly greedy). The presentation on all of the food was really well done, not over over the top but just enough to make everything look quite nice.
The cocktails were fantastic. We ordered just two margaritas I had the Baja, and my partner had the Coco Loco and we both thought they were great even though I’m not a massive tequila fan.
The tortillas themselves were absolutely lovely, a perfect tortilla. The fillings were fairly simple, classic, but certainly done well and the crispy potatoes were exactly that, ludicrously crispy and a fairly unique addition to any dining experience let alone Mexican.
It’s probably wasn’t the absolute best Mexican I’ve ever had in my entire life, but it was hard to fault anything, everything tasted great. We had a really nice time and were treated really well. I definite five star dining experience and we’re really happy we went. Thanks very much for the staff For delivering the kind of service that you really...
Read moreThis is the mexican restaurant I have been waiting for in Brisbane. For too long the only mexican cuisine in Brisbane has been the bulky, tex-mex oversized dishes with simple flavours. Until now, we have not had mexican food to boast about akin to Melbourne's 'Radio-Mexico' or Sydney's 'Mejico', but the wait is over. Difficult to recommend one specific dish as all were amazing, however the margaritas, guacamole, octupus, ceviche and pork and baja tacos were all to die for. New favourite restaurant in Brisbane.
EDIT: I had to make an edit to my review as we went back here again and had the chef's table experience and I simply had to write about it. Our recent chef's table experience at Baja Mexican was truly unforgettable. From the moment we were greeted by the charismatic head chef, Julius, we knew we were in for a special evening.
Julius's passion for food was infectious as he shared fascinating stories about the ingredients and the inspiration behind each dish. His expertise and skill were evident in the way he managed the kitchen, effortlessly juggling a full restaurant while maintaining an incredibly high standard of food and presentation.
The chef's table menu was a culinary masterpiece. Each course was a delightful surprise, showcasing the creativity and skill of the Baja kitchen. The flavors were bold and balanced, and the presentation was impeccable.
Beyond the exceptional food, the experience was made even more memorable by Julius's engaging personality and his insider recommendations for other dining experiences in Brisbane. His passion for food and hospitality was evident in every aspect of the evening.
I highly recommend the chef's table experience at Baja Mexican. It's a truly unforgettable evening that will leave you...
Read moreupdate 5 years later and I’m still in love with Baja. Celebrated my 35th birthday there last night. Food, cocktails, service - all still amazing. I’ve been a lot in the past 5 years and every single time it’s faultless.

I've been living in Brisbane for 5 years now, and this is the best dining experience I have had.
The decor is beautiful - it's so minimalist and modern with subtle nods to Mexican heritage. A far cry from kitschy 'Tex Mex' restaurants.
We had the 5 course tasting menu, and every single course was impeccable. I am so glad that it was a tasting menu as I would not have chosen some of the items (im a bit of a picky eater), but I'm so glad that I did have them as everything was delicious. It was so light, fresh and perfectly balanced in flavour, you can tell that a lot of care and skill has gone in to each dish and element.
The service was amazing. The perfect amount of time between courses, and staff were attentive but not overbearing. They were also all very passionated and knowledgable about the dishes and drinks, and explained each dish to us as it was brought out. I can't remember the name of our waitress (she had tattooed palms and short-ish hair) but she was amazing.
I went with family for my 30th birthday meal and was given a shot of tequila to finish. I was scared to try it as I had a horrific hangover from hell, but it was so smooth and smoky.
I've worked in many restaurants, and also visited many restaurants, and this is right up there. Cannot fault a thing. Definitely recommend Baja!
Thank you so much to the whole Baja team for an amazing...
