I was on my way to another cafe for my morning coffee, but took a pause while passing Cubic. Across from the court house on George Street, the cafe is small and mostly set up for take away, but there’s a little loft up top that has room for a couple tables for two people, with a little concrete bench sitting behind. There are also a few tables out front to watch the world go by, and limited bench seating for those waiting for takeaway. The motif is concrete and beech wood. It has a Japanese vibe to it. Plants hang between the loft rail, offering enough privacy for a meeting or coffee date, yet provides enough of a view to watch the world go by. It’s the perfect place to read my book, and secretly peak through the plant vines to people watch in the morning.

The staff are friendly, especially the lady who I’ve coined “Smiles and Glasses”., or perhaps “Spec-tacular Smile”. It’s all reading lame at this point. The point is she’s very friendly and represents this place well. (Edit (4mths in): All the staff are very friendly, and the owner definitely knows his coffee). The service is professional and fast.

I digress, the pastries, sandwiches and baked items in the display look scrumptious (the Raspberry Croissant was excellent). But it all comes down to the coffee for me. It was probably the best Flat White I’ve had in a long time. So creamy and smooth. The perfect blend of milk and coffee. They also do filter coffee which I’m excited to try. (Edit: I’ve tried. It’s great. They have a couple blends to choose from per day. Ask the barista which is their favourite. They’ll give you an honest opinion, and I’ve never had a bad one).

The coffee is probably not as cheap as some of the other local cafes, but it’s definitely better (I know. I’ve tried).

I’ll...

I must say i was reluctant to try Cubic again after my last experience. But they have a great range of GF treats and they looked quiet so U thought I'd give it another go. Unfortunately the experience was the same as last. I went to have a look at what was in the display cabinet while the staff member served a customer who was before me. When I popped my head up to order I was ignored and she served another person who'd come after me. I wasn't looked at, spoken to or acknowledged. Looks like, if you want service here, go straight to the counter. So shop looks great, food looks nice, coffee probably good too. But I wouldn't know,...

Great new place in town. Their coffee is out of this world, crafted to perfection. The cappuccino I had was smooth and quite aromatic. If you like croissants, definitely try the one there. It has a hint of jam, fruit filling. Just yum. The decor is very appealing and makes you want to stay for one more cup. This is my new hangout place for sure! A great place as well to take your employees for a quick one-on-one, or for a quick business meeting in the back conference room. Bravo, well done! 👏 Just a few steps from the CBD and Roma street station. Pass by for a sneaky treat, I promise you won’t be disappointed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+⭐️for...

Updated review: Coffee still excellent, "meeting room" has been changed to two separate tables, breakky burger very tasty. Not sure why it took me so long to come back (apart from not being open on weekends). Original review: Visited about a week ago - delicious coffee and arrangement of light things to eat. Quite friendly staff who did everything to make sure we were happy. The meeting room is now open, and the cafe is a beautiful place to be for some time out of your day.

Absolutely love this place! Cubic Café is a hidden gem on George St. The coffee is consistently excellent. They have a variety of single origins as well as specialty drinks. The staff are super friendly, quick, and always make you feel welcome, even during the busy rush. It’s the kind of spot that becomes your regular without even realising it. Highly recommend if you’re after great coffee and good vibes in the city!
