As someone who is always on the lookout for authentic culinary experiences, Duck Fat Restaurant in Newstead truly exceeded all expectations! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was transported back to the cobblestone streets of France.

The ambiance was charming and inviting, setting the perfect stage for an unforgettable dining experience. But it was the food that truly stole the show and reminded me of why I fell in love with French cuisine in the first place. Simon and his business partner have created an unforgettable authentic French dining experience. The staff here are not just helpful, they're downright fantastic! They went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect, from offering recommendations to ensuring prompt service throughout the meal.

The escargot (snails) entree were an absolute delight, cooked to perfection and bursting with garlic butter flavour. Each bite was like a taste of France itself, transporting me back to Paris. All the meals are priced accordingly for the amazing taste that is delivered to your table.

And let's talk about the wine! The selection perfectly complemented the meal, with experts on hand to offer any drink or food recommendations. It was clear that every aspect of the dining experience had been carefully curated to ensure the highest quality and authenticity.

From the first sip to the last bite, every dish was a masterpiece. The attention to detail and commitment to quality truly set Duck Fat Restaurant apart. If you're craving a taste of France in Brisbane, look no further than Duck Fat. It's a culinary journey you won't soon forget! My absolute new favourite restaurant in Brisbane. I will...

It has taken me one week to write this review,as I really thought hard if I wanted to address this issue. But decided it warranted expressing. The food here was superb, better than anything I tasted in France & Monte Carlo, the staff are just lovely & the French manager gentleman was such a super star. I would have wanted to come here again & again, but was left with a sour taste in my mouth, when I went to pay the bill. This is where I say "Buyer Beware". The menu just states credit card surcharge (which we now expect), weekend & public holiday surcharges apply. I understand Sunday surcharges, this is just about everywhere in Australia, however a Saturday evening surcharge that was charged on every single item on the bill and no percentage advertised anywhere, even on said bill? I am not sure if the owners are flirting with the line of being illegal. According to the ACCC, surcharges must be displayed in percentages, checked everywhere. Nothing, not even on said very expensive bill. We eat out at least twice a week, sometimes more & I have never seen surcharges on every single item. It's such a shame as I would have loved to come back here for the food & the staff alone. But I guess it will have to be a one off experience. EDIT TO THE ABOVE REVIEW: I had a call from Simon, the amazing manager & the restaurant is taking on the feedback & are now going to add the percentages to the menu. Thanks for listening to your customer's feedback & being transparent. That's very respectful of you & it speaks highly of you...

If I wrote this review after my first visit without communicating with the owner, Simon, it would be very negative.

I am glad I gave the restaurant a 2nd chance.

Ist time around the food was excellent but the service was terrible, as we had to wait over an hour to get our main courses. I complained as we were there to celebrate my son's birthday. Often complaints are met with nonchalance but not this time. We were given a voucher, of significant value, and asked to give them a second chance.

We returned and had the 12 course degustation menu (again), some cocktails and a beautiful bottle of Beaujolais. The food was excellent, as it was the first time we visited, and this time the service was very good.

Great cocktail options, a short but excellent wine list and delicious French cuisine. The charcuterie selection was all very good, the salad fresh and delicious, fried camambert lovely and crisp on the outside and gooey and yummy inside. The steak is particularly high quality and perfectly cooked. The deserts were all on point and everything was presented beautifully.

To improve the ambiance I would suggest the inside area should be better air conditioned as it was pretty warm. Outside eating is OK if you don't mind inner city street outlook and noise. The toilets, that are shared with other establishments, could definitely be kept cleaner and be more in keeping with the price you pay for the overall experience.

We will return because the owner is passionate about his business and the...

DUCKFAT promises but does not delivers. We had a disappointing lunch at DUCKFAT because the food was average. 90% of what we had was average. I will not return and do not recommend it. A more detailed breakdown Bottomless baguette and butter: 2/5. This does not work. The whole concept simply diminishes the experience at the restaurant. We waited 15 minutes for refills and waitress took our butters (and they charge you if you want extra). All of this while the restaurant was nearly empty; for me this is unacceptable. Onglet: 4/5. A dish that my partner liked and was happy with. The sauce was too acidic and the rocket wilted. NZ Mussels: 2/5. The mussels were ok and the broth was good but it was missing something. The French fries on this dish do not work. The service was subpar and inconsistent. The manager nowhere to be seen even when the staff were struggling. Everything took too long to leave the kitchen or the bar. There are so many things that they could improve. The atmosphere is strange. The restaurant is French but the decor is modern Japanese.
