We had an absolutely amazing time yesterday at Electric Avenue. Everything was perfect. We started with a Whisky Tasting in Mrs J Rabbit's Speakeasy Whisky Bar for 7 of us and ended the night with dinner for 13 downstairs in the main dining room. Organising the Whisky Tasting was so easy because Susanna's communication with me was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble and her responses were prompt, friendly and informative everytime. Susanna even provided a running sheet via email a few days before the event which basically detailed everything about the event, including our choice of canapes, special dietary requirements, type of whisky that we had requested, the specific function room that was booked and the arrangements for dinner afterwards. Considering that we were a relatively small group of 7 made no difference to the degree of care and diligence that Susanna provided to our group to ensure everything was perfect for us. Everyone was blown away with Mrs J Rabbit's Speakeasy Whisky Bar and with James, our personal whisky expert. James had carefully selected our range of whiskys to sample and provided us with a fun and informative 2 hour session, whilst other attentive staff brought round our canapes throughout. They were also delicious! After the Whisky Tasting function, we were shown downstairs to our table in the dining room where our families were waiting. Dinner for 13 of us was equally impressive. We ordered a variety from the menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed everything. Great selection, presentation, taste and value. Brilliant attentive friendly staff. We had 6 children at our table and for them and us, the atmosphere was 'electric'!!!! There was such a happy buzz and it was just such a memorable night for all the right reasons. Susanna, Dan, James and all the other staff at Electric Avenue, keep on doing what you're doing!!! We will all be coming back soon!! Thank...
Read moreOn Saturday night, my fiancé and I had our engagement party at Electric Avenue in Mrs J Rabbits; the hidden speakeasy at the top of the venue. It was an absolutely perfect event and we couldn't be happier with how it went! From the moment we met with the venue manager, Dan, we had nothing but a smooth and wonderful experience. Dan was easy to communicate with and no request seemed too hard or too much. When we arrived the room was set up in a way that allowed our guests to socialise easily and Dan had even organised personalised menus for us which were incredible! All of our guests were so impressed by the signature cocktails that we got to name with little inside jokes. He also allowed us to store the gifts we received in his office until we left at the end of the night, which was so incredibly appreciated. The bartenders were incredible and catered to our guests wonderfully. Rob especially made an impression with his experimental cocktails that he made for ourselves and the guests. They were excellent and I regret not finding out about them earlier in the evening. :) The food was incredible, and the only downside was that we ordered way too much so it didn't all get eaten, haha. Better to have too much than not enough though. All in all, the venue and its amazing staff helped make our intimate and meaningful night into the perfect evening. We could not be more happy or appreciative. Thank you Electric Avenue! Photos by Nikita Pere...
Read moreOk we all know the antique district in Woolloongabba is home to some heavy hitters on the food scene. Enotecca 1889, Detour and Canvas all occupy this space so it's brave to open another restaurant in such esteemed company and nothing has really gone well there since Crosstown closed down back in 2016.
Electric Avenue, in the old Crosstown building not only holds its own, it smashes it. The menu is bold, daring and fabulously fun. The atmosphere is cozy, speakeasy eclectic - think dark leather booths and brass ornaments with lots of sectioned off dining rooms to make it feel intimate.
We had fish with crunchy, crisp like tempura saltbush and creamy, hand made chestnut ravioli with a side of charred miso leeks. The mains were super tasty, but I'm keen to go back and order all the sides, they looked so interesting, each with their own unique twist, like corn with XO. The guys from Canvas own the place so the accompanying cocktails were, of course, divine.
The best part though is the dessert menu. Nothing sickly sweet here, but rather sophisticated flavours to tease the taste buds. I had black garlic crepes with mushroom mascarpone which was just incredible. My partner had miso brittle with aged banana. The flavours may sound weird but they work in ways that leave you feeling sated, but not heavy or overfull. We will...
