Sorry but I have a strong need to vent!!

I have regularly enjoyed beautiful coffees, lunches and morning teas for quite some time now @ Finn's Fish House, Wynnum Esplanade. Early morning coffees after a walk with my dog and regularly meeting and recommending this place to friends.

This all changed on the weekend! After enjoying coffees and halfway through our lunch, a very rude group of 6 came up to us and slammed a reserved sign in front of us (which they had taken off the table next to us) demanding that we move as we had taken their table as this was their regular table, that they are locals and we should know who they are. I am also a local and a regular but that gives me no right to carry on like they did!

This group was very loud and rude to my friend and I, stating "this is the second time in a row it's happened to them" and "If only we knew who they were" Well I do know they weren't royalty or polite AT ALL.

Now my friend and I are very reasonable people and would of been receptive to changing tables with them as we were nearly finished our lunch. But due to how aggressive loud and rude they were to us we chose to stay.... as we had all right to do so.

Then to add fuel to the fire the owner then came out and accused us of swapping the reservation sign and basically accused us of lying when we tried to explain, he also was very rude and yelled at us explaining his staff said the reservation was originally put on our table.

What I find most frustrating is the female staff member who originally brought out the reservation sign (which was at least half and hr after we'd sat down enjoying our coffees) had observed all of this and choosen not to speak up in our defence....also obviousy lying to her employer rather than take responsibility for making a mistake. The owner should also not have spoken to his customers like that as we quietly tried to explain to him. He yelled over top of us without listening.

Prior to departing the Cafe I quietly and calmly approached the female staff member who had placed the reservation sign on the table opposite to us and asked why she hadn't done the right thing and spoken up so as to have avoided all this necessary drama. Her only response was "I didn't do anything"

Shame, shame on you, the older woman and man who created all of this unnecessary and embarrasing drama whilst we were enjoying a nice lunch!!! There was a young boy in your group who obviously wasn't receiving any role modelling on manners or how to act in public, he was learning first hand from the adults in his group and the male owner of the premises, what true bullying behaviour looks like. In addition the other customers had to put up with your ongoing and loud verbal attacks on us untill we left.

Done and Dusted Happy that's...

We thought by the reviews that we'd be set for a great meal headed over to Finn's Fish House, not to mention literally FACING the ocean. What's better than fish and chips by the sea? But... No. I can safely say it was the worst meal we've ever had out, hands down. We found them to be a little pricey, compared to other fish and chip places, but they were also really mean with the portion sizes -TINY fish pieces, everything was underwhelming portions- and everything was sort of slimy and greasy, like too long in a the cooker with the oil too cool. Sort of bland tasting too, in a weird way- my little guy asked me why his fish didn't taste like fish. It wasn't particularly busy when we headed in, about five in the evening on a Sunday, but it took FOREVER for food to come. It was weird, because by the time we left, they were busy as heck. We were unsatisfied enough that I cooked a light meal for the family when we got home, so the whole trip felt like a waste of time and money. We gave them another chance a fortnight later because we were in the area, but it was the same deal- if not worse. The staff were fine, it's just- food that is absolutely not worth the money. Pretty much the worst fish and chips we've had in Brissy or anywhere up and down the coast. Don't...

Having eaten here for some years, my last visit was very poor apparently new owners the one dish that set them apart was their Mediterranean Grilled Platter but now no longer on the menu. Why? there remain a couple of grilled options but when the waitress doesn't know the difference between grilled fish and crumbed fish we have s problem So if you like your seafood deep fried to a crisp, using old products (easily tasted in the fish) and plates stacked with salad, then this may be for you. Don't waste your time

Response to owner

There was no slander in my post merely statements of fact and an opinion at the end The only factual error I made was how long ago the menu item I referred to was actually removed from your menu and my statement was exactly what your wait person said when I tried to order it "we took that off a year ago" or similar Turnover has little or nothing to do with the quality of a product used and in this case the barramundi was, in my opinion, not fresh. As to ownership of Finns the presumption of a change in owner was simply based on the changes to menu and my latest experience. If I am wrong in that presumption,...

ANZAC Day lunch, very quick service and the meal was prepared very quickly. No more than 7 minutes from ordering to pick up. Snappers was ok, not the best I've had, not the worst. Somewhat blant, not much flavor. Calamari hit the spot, not the chewy rubbery type, but the kind that was tender and sweet. Chips weren't the kind you'd expect, in a bad way that is.. maybe the oil, maybe the cooking temp, maybe the supplier.. but they were a little crunchy but the mushy centers definitely didn't make them feel like normal chips. Meal overall was half decent, thou under salted and under flavoured, but somehow a little pricy.. assuming Public Holiday surcharge? The tables were in excellent condition, there were staff to clean and wipe them down as soon as someone left. It was good to see the cleanliness kept up. One thing I noticed when leaving, the fish/calamari do not have country of origin statements, so I'll make the assumption that what I had was actually imported snappers (possibly Indonesian?) so chances are I won't be visiting again.

Finn's Fish House is ideally located at 205 Wynnum Esplanade, Wynnum East QLD 4178. This family-friendly place is within easy walking distance to the Wynnum Wading pool, which was constructed back in 1932. Finn's Fish House caters to everyone's tastes, whether it be a Greek salad or a delicious hamburger 🍔 or even better, a good feed of fish 🐟 & chips 🍟 The presentation of the fish, scallops & chips we had was superb 👌 This establishment is open for brunch, lunch & dinner, & it is popular for groups of people, tourists, or if you are taking a leisurely walk along the Wynnum Manly foreshore, you can drop by for a coffee or meal any time during the day. There is plenty of adequate inside seating as well as undercover seating alongside Finn's Fish House. So, the next time you are planning a trip to the Wynnum, why not make a stop off & enjoy the frendly hospitality at Finn's Fish House.
