GROUND Alchemy — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Definitely DO NOT recommend. We arrived and half the tables were covered in dirty plates etc from previous customers, despite the place having only 1 customer in there. Eventually I asked the waiter to please clean our table. After ordering we waited, and waited... my colleague had almost completed his meal when I asked where mine was, they admitted they forgot (despite the cafe being empty by this stage!) This was at 10am on a Saturday morning, what should have been one of their busiest days. I then saw the chef come out with a plate of breakfast - for herself. They offered me something 'quick' but I just asked for a refund and left. Staff offered no apology and seem to spend their time hanging behind the counter looking busy... Yikes. I rarely write bad reviews on here but this was such a sad experience. I like to think the barista was just having an off-day (bad mood and bad coffee) but this has really upset me. I have wanted to try this place for so long, as the menu seems very different! Lions mane, blue spirulina etc. Spontaneously dropping in for a dirty chai has resulted in my decision to never return. The chai flavour was nonexistent, I got a double shot yet could not taste anything but almost-cold milk. When I ordered and asked the Barista how their day was, they did NOT want to return my smile. I’ve been to this cafe twice since they moved to Merthyr Rd and both were incredibly disappointing and frustrating experiences. Both were incredibly slow: a takeaway tea took 40 minutes to make on one occasion (only one person was in front of us) and they forgot the second tea that was ordered. After all that, the tea leaves were burnt and tasted awful. They also made a coffee for a friend/colleague who popped in, ahead of paying customers - a big faux pau! The other I visited the coffee was equally slow and not as ordered (extra hot came out as luke warm). Dismal!

I’m sure they are nice people but if you don’t have all day for ordinary coffee/tea then try another...
