There are a few options for breakfast and coffee in Teneriffe, but none quite as wholesome as these guys are. Kin and co sports a brilliant and refreshing simplicity about everything they do. The place is clean, streamlined and comfortable. The coffee is precisely dosed and poured consistently. The house blend (Supreme) is clean yet robust. Even the tablewear is clever and simple. More importantly though, their dishes are honest and exactly what they should be.
At last a place where the menu isn't framed with an onslaught of obscure names and edible flowers and ingredients you have to look up on google before you order. A place where a ham and cheese omelette is just that, and where the beans are flavoured and herbed and cooked to perfection (seriously, good baked beans are a shockingly hard find these days) and the avocado on toast looks almost too good to eat without even trying.
Because maybe that's just it, Kin and co doesn't need to try hard to get your attention. They just do what they know to do best and Iet the food, coffee and service speak for themselves. No fuss or pretense about it. And really, what more could you ask for in this golden consumerist era where obnoxiously loaded, unpronounceable ancient ingredients from another world and nutritionally impossible meals reign supreme? In a time when the simple things are forgotten, Kin and co is there for you in the best kind of way.
Also, they make the best black coffee in teneriffe/New Farm and I'm pretty sure that they are the only ones who do a pourover in the area (looking at you baristas and serious coffee drinkers). And they make their own sodas. And the service is always comfortable and the staff are tops. If you're taking the time to sit outside for a bit, you also have views of the river (and the glorious woolstores) because you're bang in Brisbane's sweet spot. And there's heaps of street parking, although you're just a 5 minute stroll from New Farm park (just sayin'). They also have a take away coffee window which opens super-duper early to support your coffee needs even before early work start.
So if you were wondering, this place is pretty much a blessing in plain sight. Don't ever...
Read moreTerrible service and meal. Usually come to Kin and co each weekend and sometimes have noticed they burn the milk in the coffees however it's convenient so we usually come back and try again. We won't be after our experience today. We ordered our meals and noticed that a few other tables that arrived after us received their meals 10 mins before us, but this turned out to be the least of our concerns... I ordered the granola, fruit and raspberry sorbet. the sorbet came out warm and completely melted (see pic) You did not tell me that the food would be different than it otherwise would be due to your freezer issues I received the meal, noticed the sorbet was melted, thought this was perhaps how it was supposed to be, ate half of it, didn't like it, then checked on instagram and realised something was wrong i had eaten around the warm sorbet (fruit, and granola on its own) when I called over the waitress. she offered me another meal however it would have been a waste of food as i really didn't feel like anything after eating warm sorbet and feeling gross, and also I knew I wouldn't have been able to finish it. she said she would speak to the manager but the manager never came to our table and only appeared when we were raising our concerns again at the register to pay as i ate half of it, i thought a fair compensation was to pay half price, if you think it was 3/4 - that's fine i would have been happy to pay 3/4 of the price, instead the manager spoke in a rude tone.... you will now lose hundreds of dollars of otherwise guaranteed revenue we would have spent due to the location of your coffee shop to our normal Saturday walking route Next time, rather than offering an entire new meal which seams impractical and a waste of food, a simple discount - even negotiated down % - and a non-aggressive/dismissive tone would have resolved the issue quickly and easily
We won't be going back after this experience and being treated...
Read moreHaving recently moved to the area and being encouraged to explore this local eatery by a good friend we did decide to give it a go. The location is easy to get to and parking fairly readily available - though if you live in the area everything is walkable. Ambiance warm and inviting and surprisingly spacious inside/downstairs with very comfortable decor. Service great - to a point- read on. Food 🥘 was great and coffee better than average - and there’s a lot of coffee in the area so that’s a compliment. The issue I had was with one particular waiter. In brief - the three of us at breakfast live together - my wife my daughter and me! So during breakfast we took the opportunity to chat with a few other friends on line, respond to emails etc etc and then we all had a group chat with my son who lives in Melbourne - because it would have been inappropriate to call him and have a group call in a restaurant filled with people. We were all very happy doing our thing and enjoying breakfast together. This particular waiter took it upon himself to then judge us and our capacity to interact and communicate by making the comment when he came to collect plates from the table as follows - “Can I collect the plates from the table?” “Yes please, Thankyou very much, was very nice, Thankyou!” And his response ... “Don’t worry I won’t interrupt you all talking to each other...” It wasn’t a joke It wasn’t said with any sense of humour and even if it was it would have been grossly inappropriate. I did call him back and explain how inapppriate and unnecessary his comment was, to which he replied “oh I’m sorry , I didn’t mean to offend”. Yes you did buddy - you meant to offend and you did. Keep your smart ar&$# comments to yourself as you have absolutely no idea what is happening in other people’s lives and who they may be communicating with or for what reason. Do your job, be polite and that will suffice. You aren’t hired for your social...
