Looking for the place to be on a Friday night? This might be an option. Hot tip, book ahead.
Julius Pizza is a great place, the atmosphere is early afternoon families with young kids drop by for a quiet meal and family time.
Add 2 hours and it transforms into a vibrant more South Brisbane trend scene. Loud and proud it's staff give all their Italian heritage fresh off the nona train.
Staff are what is incredibly on point, never feel without or waiting for service here. Even menus that might float off a table with wind are promptly replaced within a minute of falling. It's the attention to detail which we enjoyed.
Ordering is easy to do with allowances to customize a menu item to suit tastes. The menu is expansive with options for most. Drink choices are reasonable with again more options. Glasses clean and cutlery on point.
Service was fast and efficient. Our area wait staff were very prompt and attentive.
Food, we ordered a pizza and got what we asked for. Base was super thin and cust light but thick. Topping was ok, didn't rock our world but the taste was quite good. I feel some technique adjustment needs to be considered regarding topping consistency and profile.
A little more time to cook the topping was required. The base was perfect. Being wood fired, a coals grill to give the topping that final pop could be used.
We also had pasta which was actually authentic and cooked perfectly. Flavor profile was something I'd travel for. The garlic, hint of chilli and butter made it sing with correct spice and seasonings. Absolutely sublime.
Fitout is presents well with something you could easily find in the small streets of an Italian town.
I would return for pasta, pizza well a slice with friends before pasta would be suitable. Better pizza around I feel.
Overall it's quite a nice place to visit and we enjoyed our meals.
1 pizza, one pasta dish and 2 beers was circa $65. Expensive and a sometimes visit considering what you get for the money. However food is one thing, great service makes a place....and Julius does...
Read moreLovely restaurant, nice service and good food.
We've been to Julius twice now and I think it's a very well run place. The greeting is warm and friendly, our booking (more on that later) was quickly verified and we were guided to our table with minimum fuss.
We ordered two pizza Margheritas and they were very good. Cooked to perfection with a perfect base and lovely cheese. For the sauce, I think Julius have gone for a signature variety which will be open to personal taste. For me nothing beats a mostly untouched super fresh San Marzano, so it was not quite 10/10 for me but still very good.
The service throughout was very attentive and worthy of a high standard restaurant. The decor and table layout was also just a very nice place to be.
Two things I'd change:
For a restaurant that gives a lovely upmarket feel, and for a place that you could spend some good money at, having a credit card surcharge should be scrapped. Yes, you're entitled to it and yes it costs you more, but from my bill you basically earned a dollar at the cost of a bemused shake of the head and a slight degradation to finish my dining experience. Wrap it up in the food costs if you must, because there's nothing wrong with the prices. Same thing for the pizza boxes. If someone loves the pizza enough to order a bit more and wants to take it home, don't piss them off with a 50 cent box charge :) We avoided that but it was on the menu, so hopefully it's on the way out.
The 25 dollar per head booking guarantee. I almost didn't go through with the booking when I was confronted with that. It either tells the customer "we don't trust you to show up" or "we seem to be having issues with people booking and then no-showing". It's an aggressive, unnecessary affront to potential customers as a first impression that leaves a sour taste. I'd get rid of that pronto, because the experience inside the restaurant is not like that at all.

Read moreI had dinner with my friends a couple of weeks ago. It was a farewell dinner, so we wanted a special night. We waited for 1.5 hours, which was understandable since it was a Saturday night. We finally got to sit, but a few of us had bad colds and wanted to sit inside. We didn't complain because it was a busy night and we were a group of five. However, I noticed an empty large table inside and saw that all the people sitting outside were Asian by chance.
It was okay as long as the food was good. The staff weren’t very nice, but again, it was a busy night, so it didn’t bother me much. The pizza was great, the wine was nice, but the pasta was so-so. The thing that makes me write this review is how we were treated when the wind started blowing hard. All the staff were trying to close the door and fix things, and it was a funny moment until all the customers got to go inside except us. We told the staff we were cold, and one of them said, “I’m cold too,” and went inside. At that moment, our farewell dinner was ruined.
We finished our meal, and our plates and glasses were completely empty. Then, the owner came out and asked if we wanted to go inside. We told him we already finished, so there was no need. He said, “I can’t control the weather.” As we were leaving, a staff member said, “Don’t be upset, there were no seats.” But we all knew that the other customers from outside got inside, and there were tables for five. Two groups of people got inside, and the rest outside were all Asian. What a coincidence?
I told them, “You could’ve asked us first. We were five people like the other tables, but they got in first even though we came earlier.” He said the manager managed that.
I’m not writing this review to fight or look for apologies. I’m just writing a genuine review for my fellow Asians. I’ve been living in Australia for quite a while, but this is the first time I felt I was treated differently...
