It is disappointing how an establishment like this restaurant hires people who aren’t trained to be do their job well. We experienced a differential treatment at the restaurant, and the servers were extremely rude, dismissive and clueless about the very restaurant they work at. I’ll start with no server keen on taking our order, we had been sitting around for a good 10 minutes in a not so busy looking restaurant waiting for a menu & water. I believe we were seated by someone called peter, when you work in customer service it is your job to be nice to customers, you can not just walk away from the table without saying a word when asked about can you please take down our order. Experiencing Racism in places like these in 2024 is wild. We were also overcharged for our food & drinks, and when we asked for an itemised bill, the server started writing down the prices of the items ordered on a piece of paper with hand. They charged is twice the amount on the menu for a whiskey and when questioned about it we were told it is because we added a coke zero to the whiskey, twice the price for a soda? For real? I was overcharged for another Spritz i ordered too, and they said they haven’t updated the prices on their menu, but the ones on our receipt are the new prices. Anyone who’s worked a day in a restaurant knows it doesn’t work like that you could get in serious trouble for pulling a stunt like that. The server than proceeded to be extremely rude, dismissive and made up silly excuses and spoke to us like we didn’t understand what he was saying, and was of no help. The supervisor did give us a refund with out any apology, lack of sincerity from a supervisor at such an establishment is baffling to witness. To sum it up, horrible service will give your restaurant a bad name no matter how hard your chefs work in the kitchen. We had to leave because of the poor service we received even before we could order the mains. Thanks for a...

From the moment we stepped into Southside, it was clear we were in for something special—an atmosphere dripping with understated elegance, matched only by a menu that reads like a love letter to modern Asian cuisine.

We kicked things off with the prawn toast, and let me just say—this was not your average takeaway version. Golden, crisp, and indulgently rich, it came crowned with delicate curls of bonito and a whisper of spicy mayo that elevated each bite into pure, crunchy bliss.

Then came the fried rice—a dish so often overlooked, yet here it was a main event in its own right. Smoky, savoury, and punctuated with perfect bursts of umami. Every grain held its place—no sogginess, no filler—just wok hei magic and balance in a bowl.

The kingfish sashimi was a thing of beauty. Translucent slices of fish, dressed in a tangy ponzu and finished with fresh herbs and just the right touch of heat. It was clean, vibrant, and so fresh you could swear the ocean was whispering in your ear.

Next: oysters in mignonette—absolute heaven. Plump and briny, served ice-cold with a mignonette so bright and punchy it cut through with precision, each mouthful was a masterclass in freshness and finesse.

And then the finale—wagyu sizzling beef. This dish didn’t just arrive—it performed. Delivered on a searing hot plate, the aroma alone turned heads. Tender, marbled slices of wagyu, caramelised and sizzling in their own rich juices, mingled with garlic and a dark, glossy sauce. Each bite was a perfect storm of melt-in-your-mouth texture and deep, soulful flavour.

Southside doesn’t just serve food—they orchestrate an experience. Every plate was a crescendo, every flavour composed with thought and flair. It’s bold, it’s refined, and it absolutely delivers. We left full, buzzing, and already planning our...

As a long time fan of this establishment, I had extraordinarily high hopes for my birthday dinner this evening. However, it unfortunately seems that in the year since I last dined at Southside, the standards have dramatically fallen. The food as always was spectacular, however this was the only redeeming factor of our experience. Service was sub-par to say the least. Upon arrival, we requested an outdoor table and were denied the same, despite a multitude of outdoor tables remaining open for the duration of our booking. We were sat indoors at the booth, where the airconditioner leaked on us and our table. We requested to be moved, and were simply moved along the same row, where the airconditioner dripped once again into our meal. We were not the only guests having this issue, or voicing our dismay. At least two other tables were having this issue. What is truly disappointing however, is the lack of sincerity from waitstaff in apologising or seeking a solution. So many things could have been done to resurrect not only an uncomfortable inconvenience, but a safety hazard, including escalating to management or adjusting our bill to reflect the poor experience we had. Instead, we sat at a wet table, paid full price, and left feeling extremely disappointed. Attention to detail in general was severely lacking, even when it came to bagging our leftovers. Additionally, the reason for the celebration, as requested in the booking process, was not acknowledged in the slightest. Southside has always been regarded as my favourite restaurant, hence the choice for my celebration this year. Safe to say, unfortunately I...

Southside is a really lovely restaurant in a great location. However it’s a pity the service for some of the staff is not great. I could not believe the lack of customer service here, having dined at a lot of Brisbane establishments that go above and beyond. When we first got to the door the host informed us we must be finished with our table in an hour. In the middle of our sitting a rude lady wanted to take the menu that we were following along with as it was a set menu - when we refused she proceeded to take it and then just put it back in the menu holder (didn’t even need it for anything else). Another disappointment from this restaurant is the drinks we ordered for $20+. These came to the table in whisky glasses (yet it was a cocktail) and with a massive ice cube, so really there was less than half the glass full. It was a hot afternoon when we went so we were glad to be sat inside in the aircon however it was disappointing that I was sat underneath the aircon that had water dripping out of it. The staff attempted to clean this but that doesn’t change the fact water was dripping onto a paying customer. Otherwise the food was brought out in a timely manner and the potato and truffle spring rolls I would highly recommend. These were properly seasoned and delicious. The kingfish was also amazing and really tasted great. However, we also had the fried rice which was nothing special, pork dumplings which looked like they were bought from the shops and not homemade and bao buns which were overly sweet. With Southbank the centre of Brisbane for great food I would recommend to look at some other places around.

I came here 3weeks ago for business dinner, and I was so delighted and loved your foods and service so back to dine last night with my partner. We paid more than $200 for two people and only stayed 1hour and shame about your service. My table’s waiter staff only job was pouring water whole night. When we had a bit food left on our plates, she took the plates away without asking. Also when she took order from us, I mentioned that I am allergic with Coriander and she saids ok, but there was chopped coriander in scallop. No idea, chef ignored my request or she forgot. I understand some of menu can not really take off ingredient from menu, then your waiter staff should inform to customer first before get food. If it was serious allergy, how will you guys deal with? When drink was empty, she even didn’t asking other drinks so I asked other staff to get drinks menu. After my 2nd drinks finished, I decided to stop drink in this venue. There is no point spending my money with this service anymore. She only came once to asked for checking foods during dine in(was beginning of entree time) so I am writing review here. Food was good just before main, we upgrade $12pp wagyu but was only 4 pcs of sliced wagyu in total and was really salty. Also fried rice was too much salty even we felt actual salt inside rice. I couldn’t believe that I ordered same food 3weeks ago and yesterday totally different tasty, felt really sorry to my partner. Also service was totally different yesterday and previous experience. It was a very disappointing dining experience and I would not return nor recommend to friends around me.
