God I hate leaving negative reviews, but I feel like they are important to small businesses. And Iâve actually emailed the owner a few times before posting this, so here goesâŚ
When Sunny Side first opened at Windsor, it was life-changing. As a sandwich lover, I literally ran there and fell in love with their Chicken Salad Club. It was perfection - chickenny & herby, with freshly cooked bacon and I was happy to add a slice of cheese & herb sauce for it to end up around the $16 mark. The Shokupan bread held it all together brilliantly.
But then the wheels started to fall off. On 3 separate visits, my $1.50 slice of cheese was left off, and on the 4th visit, when I asked the staff member not to forget it, she was really rude. And the sandwich was shrinking. But silly me kept coming back.
Then the menu changed, along with the prices. To make the Chicken a âClubâ, you have to now add bacon for FIVE DOLLARS on top of the $16.40, plus cheese for $1.50, an extra $1 for a squirt of herby mayo, and all of a sudden, youâre eating a $24 sandwich! If it was super filling and crafted to perfection, I know myself and a lot of people might not flinch at that price, but itâs justâŚâŚ not.
Iâve attached two photos of how it started vs. how itâs going. It makes me sad because yep, wages, food costs, inflation etc., but also,...
Read moreOrdered pastrami + pickles for late lunch. Unfortunately I didnât experience an âoompfhâ satisfaction upon eating when youâre really hungry (note: I hadnât eaten all day).
For $15, Iâd expect more from the sandwich. In my humble opinion, the choice of bread (Shokupan) doesnât suit sandwich fillings as itâs too airy, and honestly, I wouldnât tell the difference to white bread from coles apart from that slight chewiness/ airiness.
Secondly felt like the fillings had been out all day and didnât feel fresh (I mean the pastrami was literally heated on a toaster).
Lastly, felt like I had to choose between pickles & cheese or salad with my pastrami, otherwise youâd pay extra to add on for cheese. Kind of rather they listed a holistic that theyâre proud of on their menu for $17 rather than a lowkey deconstructed one for cheaper. I guess freedom to construct your sandwich is the concept theyâre going for though.
Overall was disappointed, but better than Dominoes...
Read moreSo, I dragged the kids along here the other day, hoping to score some decent sandwiches without too much drama. Honestly, it did the job. The bread was fresh, and the fillings tasted alright. No complaints from the little ones, which is a win in itself. I went for the roast beef combo, which was a bit on the dry side, but nothing a bit of mustard couldnât fix. The place itself is nothing flash but feels welcoming enough. Service was quick, but the staff seemed a bit flustered with the lunchtime rush. Its understandable, but made it feel a little rushed. Prices were fair, so no complaints there. Overall, itâs a decent spot for a casual lunch. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing to avoid. Sometimes you just need a simple sandwich, and this place...
