During our short trip to Broken Hill, we had the pleasure of enjoying brunch at Silly Goat, and it was a delightful experience. The cozy ambiance of the place immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed.

We ordered coffee and sourdough toasts with eggs and bacon, and the food was simple yet impeccably cooked and presented. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the combination of the crispy sourdough and savory bacon made for a satisfying meal. The coffee was excellent, adding the perfect touch to our brunch.

What truly stood out was the excellent service provided by the young and energetic team working there. Their attention to detail was commendable. For instance, we noticed that when the guy serving coffee noticed a small spill on the saucer, he immediately turned around. The barista quickly helped him change the saucer, cleaned the bottom of the cup, and then served it to our table. This showed their dedication to providing high-quality service and a great dining experience.

The teamwork and enthusiasm of the staff were evident throughout our visit, making it a memorable stop on our trip. Silly Goat is a fantastic place to enjoy a well-cooked, delicious brunch with excellent service. If you’re in Broken Hill, don’t miss out...

Extremely disappointed with the service, not to mention offended if I am honest. Rude man with a bad attitude at the door. His tone when speaking to us was unfriendly.

Called a day early to book a table and was told "We don't take bookings (i have no issues with that), however we can 100% guarantee there will be room for you when you walk in (awesome - that sounded good to me!)".

So, we did just that today and was turned away. "Sorry there is about a 30 minute wait...We are still waiting on a table of 9 (sorry - i thought you said you don't take bookings)".

We then asked if we can sit outside at the vacant table and was told "sorry we aren't sitting people outside as a dust storm is on its way". So we accepted defeat and went elsewhere.

We then walked back past The Silly Goat 45 mins later to see a group of customers sitting outside in the spot we were told "no sorry, a dust storm is on it's way".

WOW.

So so...

Pros: food is lovely Cons: very overpriced. For example, ordered an egg and bacon roll but swapped bacon for haloumi- was charged an extra $4.50. Despite not having bacon and despite both having the same price listed in ‘additions’. Bringing the price for an egg and haloumi roll to $19. Repeating for emphasis- $19. Further, any additions are ridiculously overpriced- e.g., to add relish to a bacon and egg roll, the charge is $2.50. I feel like they are taking advantage of customers. Staff friendliness is also really variable, some are lovely, others very stand offish. For the prices, I’d be expecting every element of food and service to be impeccable.

I think a lot of the 5 star reviews are from people surprised to find somewhere hip to eat in Broken Hill, with modern menu options. But there’s plenty of tasty food around even if it is fairly basic, with better prices and more...

On a recent long weekend in Broken Hill we had plans to visit The Silly Goat for breakfast on our first morning, but ended up returning three days in a row! I had three perfect coffees, a delicious juice, and three breakfasts that I would happily eat every weekend if only they were in Sydney. Of course it's a popular venue so at busy times there may be a wait for a table or for your food to arrive from the kitchen, but the venue is large and well-staffed, and I was able to get a table for two straight away each time I visited. Special mention must go to the breakfast panna cotta, which was beautifully presented and was an absolute revelation to my dining companion - she said it was one of the nicest breakfasts she had ever eaten in her life. Great food as it has been shared by so many!!! What caught my attention was the logo of this place! It's got the symbols Zn(Zinc), Pb(Lead) & Ag(Silver). So, I asked the question, why??? And got this amazing answer - This is the owners way of aying homage to the city. The city mines zinc, lead, and silver the most. Hence, these are the foundation of their cafe - The Silly Goat! Meaning, The Silly Goat is there as these metals were mined bringing in people to this town!! Isn't it amazing!!! Loved this bit of info, hope you enjoy reading this as well!! And, not to forget, the person who took my order got us our coffees, was an amazing person too!!
