I was going to the Lido Cafe & Bar for a few years but after a couple of recent experiences, I felt I needed to write a review. My recent experiences showed a complete lack of regard to quality food, very expensive prices and the waiter service was appalling. One of the visits, my friend and I arrived at 12.05 pm. Despite our attempts to attract attention, no one came to take our order until 12.20 pm. Our drinks (a latte and a Coke) weren't delivered until almost 12.25 pm and our food orders did not appear until 12.35 pm. Our next experience really took the cake. Very similar experience to the above mentioned. This time, however, we went in to pay for our drinks (which we had received) and to tell them to cancel the food order as we only had 10 minutes left to eat it and return to work on time. Waiting over 30 minutes for a lunch order is not acceptable. The owner grinned at us when we complained, offered to take 20% off and the bill still came to almost $45. When my friend mentioned that we had been coming there to lunch on a twice weekly basis for many years, the owner didn't seem to care at all. He just grinned at us. No apology. I make no apology writing this review. My friend and I will NEVER go to the Lido again. Well damn. I gave in and went back. Just as bad as it was. Old lettuce used in the Caesar salad, I had to send the dish back as I had specified no anchovies and it came out covered with the damn things. The service is terrible since the barista quit. No one notices when you sit down and you have to call them to take your order. The worst part is being charged almost $20 for a chicken Caesar salad and having it show up with a hair in it. Only noticed when you had started to eat. Yuck! Very poor service, very poor food quality and I've...
Read moreThe food was absolutely terrible. Drinks were decent, which is the only reason I gave it one star—otherwise, it would be zero.
We ordered the Chicken Nachos and Chicken Parmi.
Chicken Nachos: This was a disaster. It consisted only of nacho chips, guacamole, boiled chicken (yes, boiled chicken—my mistake for not noticing that on the menu), sour cream, cheese, and some overly sweet red sauce. No beans, no salsa, and the worst part? It was microwaved. The cheese hardened, turning the entire dish into a solid, inedible brick.
Chicken Parmi: Started off okay, but halfway through, something tasted off. I tried another bite from the other end and immediately had to spit it out. The chicken was spoiled. Yes, spoiled.
This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a cafe...
Read moreUsed to be a favourite and reliable destination for lunch. However something has changed. Went to lunch and the service was very slow even though the cafe was only half full. Had to ask for the whereabouts of a dish 30min after the order (it was a wrap so nothing complex). In addition to slow service, I ordered a tandoori pie and I received sliced chicken breast layered over a tandoori paste in between Turkish bread. It was a Turkish bread sandwich not pide. When asked the question they responded by saying that is how they make it - small thing but it is misleading. Just call it a sandwich...
Hope it was an off day because I truly did think highly...
