The Bearded Bean — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

It’s difficult to judge a coffee shop in the centre of the city. The available competition brings an edge of tension - if your coffee is not up to scratch, it will very quickly lose the crowds of tired-eyed businesspeople that’s necessary to pay the rent.

Bearded Bean is always full. While not a specialty coffee shop like The Espresso Room or CoffeeLab (which is just around the corner!) Bearded Bean make sure their coffee is hot, well poured, fresh, with clean machines. It’s good. It’s not an experience, but it is GOOD.

Why is it that I stop in at Bearded Bean instead of anywhere else? When I could get a Melbourne Coffee Culture esque experience at CoffeeLab just around the corner?

Bearded has an edge, and it is its people. All smiles, they quickly learned my name and my order after only a few weeks. Always ready to give a tiny biscuit on top of your cup, and extra staff taking orders in the queue to speed up the ordering process, Bearded Bean makes the entire experience excellent.

And then I ordered their food. For a small coffee shop, their lunch options were far better than they needed to be. Eating a fantastic bacon, chorizo and egg wrap I was dumbfounded at the quality offered by such a small coffee shop that was already excelling in all of the necessary qualities it needed to be excelling in.

Recently dropped by the Bearded Bean Cafe in Canberra and was seriously impressed. It's a relaxed spot that's perfect for a quick coffee break. The staff are friendly and quick to serve, which is always a plus on a workday.

The real standout is the coffee, which is clearly brewed by folks who know their stuff. Never underestimate the value of a good cup of coffee in the middle of a busy day.

Word of warning: it can get a bit packed, but that just shows it's a popular spot. Might be a tad noisy, but that's part of its character.

To sum up, Bearded Bean is a top-notch cafe. It's got a great vibe, quality coffee, and efficient service. Worth a visit when you're on the grind...

With so many cafe’s and coffee spots in the area it’s hard to see how one coffee spot can stand out so far from the crowd. That’s exactly what the bearded bean does. Tom and Joe make an awesome foundation and are supported by fantastic staff. Never had a bad experience at the bean. Having moved back home to Perth, this is the one thing I really miss about my time in Canberra.
