Very disappointed and sad to be writing this, as Jungle Bird has been mine and my friends’ favourite local bar in the last year three years - but it needs to be done after us being unfairly “kicked out” yesterday evening. We were treated extremely unfairly by the door lady who appears to run the front area like a military operation. She’s on a huge power trip and believes that her position grants her the right to be as rude as she likes. We were there to enjoy a leaving drinks for our friend, we were not in any way rowdy or disruptive - just there to have a nice time. Despite having a table out front, we were having to play musical chairs a little bit so we could all sit at any given time - at one point my friend very innocently picked up her drink whilst standing up without realising; apparently this warranted the full wrath and fury of the door lady. We all fully respect the laws and regulations - so it was nothing more than an honest mistake. What followed was beyond a joke - despite us trying to be diplomatic, apologetic and respectful, your door lady seemed it fit to just dismiss us and order us to leave. How is that okay? We’ve all worked in hospitality and understand how stressful it can be when you’re dealing with problem customers - but we were far far from causing any real issues.
I don’t like writing this review because it’s one of my favourite bars in freo but it would be worth management looking at the behaviour of certain employees- because you’re going to start losing regular customers who have until this point, had positive experiences with...
Read moreI get around Fremantle a lot. I live there. We call it Freo as in Free-oh. I also travel a lot and I am constantly on the lookout for places with a vibe where I can write or read during the day then drink and socialize into the evening. There are dozens of bars in Freo. Most of them cater for basic tastes, i.e. big sports TV, popular music, some overpriced food, and while some go to an effort to create a happening place they often fail to create any ambience or vibe. I believe it has to do with lack of imagination and/or simply an ignorance of what makes a vibe that is conducive to social intercourse. Jungle Bird is a big win on this account. It is a small venue however they have managed to get the Caribbean music playlist just right. This playlisr creates a swinging, retro, Latin American feel to the room. The fine beer selection is excellent. Jungle Bird features outdoor seating which is perfect on a sunny day for people watching. Inside has a strange mixture of unmatched seating which helps give it a casual, laid back, drinking vibe where social gatherings are relaxed and fun. When compared to the dull drabness of surrounding small bars in the area, Jungle Bird scores the full 5 stars due to this winning formula. It's all about the vibe,...
Read moreCame in with friends. First drink was custom and fine. Second drink was one of the specials (boozy iced tea). The dreadlock-beardy-tatted-blanco bartender only had enough mix to make 3 of the 6 drinks ordered. Two were actual full glasses, the rest had splashes. He said "I can finish the remaining 4 (that had 1/4 fill of the boozy tea) off with ginger beer!"
Um, okay, that seems pretty dilute. He wouldn't really screw us over would he?
The "full-throttle" boozy teas tasted like actual tea and that they used an eye dropper to add the alcohol to the mix. 3 drop max rule probably because no alcohol in it. It was so dilute that it could be part of one of those fantasy sequences where you get pulled over for drink driving and the occifer (sic)asks "have you been drinking?" And you respond, "Yep, boozy tea all night long." Then they go to the breathalyzer, and you blow 0.00% and they say "haha funny liar." To which you respond, "No, it was at Jungle Bird." And they say, "ah, the watery tea. Have a nice evening" and let you go.
Nice atmosphere but don't go with their premix unless you have to drive home but then, you could save yourself $15x6 and just...
