I went to Alma’s this morning with a couple of friends for breakfast. The menu looked delicious and we placed our orders. Both of my friends have had issues with card fraud after using QR codes to order in the last few months so they wanted to order at the counter. I ordered at the counter because the juice I wanted was not available to order via QR code.
My friends meals arrived quite quickly with the waiter, who was lovely, assuring me mine was on the way. I encouraged my friends to tuck in while it was hot and they did.
Mine never arrived. They finished and we all just looked at each other awkwardly and I didn’t want to be eating in front of the two of them so I went to get a refund. The woman who served me was there for my refund and when I explained that my meal had not arrived and we needed to leave she just walked away from me at a fast pace to the kitchen. When she came back she said that if we’d ordered together via QR code it would have all come out together. I explained why we didn’t and she repeated herself. So I explained again and she kinda snapped “I’m not arguing with you, I’m just telling you for next time”. At no point did she apologise. She was quietly snarky not asking if I wanted the refund to go back onto my card which I did. She walked away again without so much as a “give me a quick second” and came back smiling and put the cash on my hand before focusing on the next person.
The juice I ordered was the glow juice and this did arrive thankfully. I can’t remember everything that was supposed to be in it but it was disappointing tasting like pure watermelon juice and way too much ice.
My friends said their breakfasts were delicious and their juices were good also. They had a great experience with their food and drinks and said they would go back again. I would not. Two stars for the waitress and waiter that presented...
Read moreOn a Tuesday evening, we ventured to Alma's in Surfers Paradise, a Mexican restaurant known for its half-priced tacos deal.
As we settled in, we ordered a variety of tacos - soft shell crab, lobster, and beef cheek. Each promised a unique flavour experience. However, the overall food quality was just okay, not quite living up to our expectations. The soft shell crab and lobster tacos were decent, but the beef cheek lacked the depth of flavour we anticipated.
A significant letdown were the fries, which arrived limp and were quite disappointing. They lacked the crispiness and seasoning one would hope for in a dish that usually serves as a reliable sidekick to any meal.
The service, unfortunately, did not do much to elevate our experience. It was average, leaning towards chaotic, which detracted from the dining experience. Notably, there was an error with our bill, and observing the staff making multiple errors with orders at surrounding tables further dampened the ambiance. This disarray seemed to be a theme for the evening, which was unfortunate.
Overall, while the concept of Alma's is intriguing and the prospect of half-priced tacos on a Tuesday is appealing, the execution in both the culinary and service departments was lacking. The experience left us feeling that this Mexican venture has potential but needs refinement in both its kitchen output and its service management to...
Read moreI’m a local, and I live next door. Sometimes I go down and get myself a takeaway a Açai bowl which is generally very nice.
Sadly today, after waiting 15 minutes, and noticing that everyone outside wasn’t getting served, I thought to myself, I wonder how my food will be.
Well, this is the reason for this post. When she handed me a cup, which was half full and look like a child made it I nearly handed it back. $19 and the only good part of it was the actual açai, which they don’t make anyway.
At least I had some peanut butter in my apartment, which I could put on it.
Really, really disappointed, it doesn’t take much to make you stop going somewhere . They should be ashamed to even serve this.
First photo shows what I received, second photo shows how I just turned it upside down into a tiny bowl.
$19 and have to wait close to 20 minutes for that. I don’t think...
