I really wanted to give more stars because the owner seemed motivated and happy to make the experience worthwhile as we came in on a quiet Saturday. After spending a few hundreds on top shelf liquor shots we were ready for cocktails, as we all took our sips I have never seen such a look of sober collective agreement from people who were trying so hard just to get drunk in a nice gold coast bar on a Saturday night, every single one of our drinks (long island iced tea, whisky sour, nothing too fancy) was so tasteless and watered down, we didn't even know if they were alcoholic. Given that these are bread and butter cocktails with standardised ingredients that we regularly order ceremoniously to start a night, we were pretty amazed how different and gutless they were .
It was pretty funny at the time and we weren't put off untill I sent back my whisky sour being the most expensive of the lot, they waitress asked "so you don't want it?"
I didn't, and we went on drinking straight top shelf shots to be safe.
Later I walked to the bar and asked for a beer in lue of the whisky sour I sent back, to which the waitress stated I would have to pay for since I "didnt want" the whisky sour.. which was not sour, sweet, or alcoholic tasting in the slightest, not deserving of the $22 price tag nor the 25 minute wait time. She clearly wasnt trained to try keep even a whale who was ordering regular $30-$40 shots remotely satisfied with the service.
Fortunately the owner overheard this and knew better , kindly offering 2 beers as a substitute for the trouble, hence the 3 starts not 1. I have never been refused a substitute drink of lesser value when returning a full drink. Actually....I don't think I have ever returned a drink before. let alone my favorite cocktail.
Ultimately, as a prime real estate cocktail bar on the gold coast, I expected more in terms of cocktail fidelity and service. Long island iced teas and whisky sours at the very least are simple, replicable (and expensive) drinks that shouldn't have a great degree of variance let alone airing on the watered down side.
The fact we spent what was probably at least $700 on drinks between 6 people when already tipsy, and still being able to write this review half an hour later completely sober without a typo is bit of a let down. High functioning alcoholics should be the top lookout for bar staff to keep comeing back, but we probably won't.
I know the owner keeps track of these reviews and I hope he puts what is obviously good business ethics into practice with his staff, and appreciates the honesty of my 3...
Read moreThe Only reason I'm leaving Two Stars is because of the lovely service by CJ. Both the bar staff were very amicable and friendly but CJ really made the effort to be friendly and build rapport with me and the other Patrons of Bar 11. CJ had a laugh, was bubbly, energetic and can tell really enjoyed what she did. The other Bar person was equally as friendly and took the time to ask how my day was also, something that actually caught me off guard pleasantly as unusual for what I'm used to and was a nice gesture
Unfortunately, this can't be said for what seemed to either be the manager or the Owner it appears. He was quite rude, short and abrupt. Could immediately tell that he was unhappy with his staff "Actually" providing customer service. Often standing over them or scouring as they went about their duties.
The food was okay, not great. Typical pub food but not worth the price tag associated to the meal. Even at Brisbane Prices. Fish was frozen not fresh, and may have perhaps been birdseye or I&J
Would recommend for a quick beer, but just don't have too good of a time, or the owner/manager (dictator) will put an end to...
Read moreMy family and I (husband and small child, plus including senior mother and father) came to stay close by to this bar and thought it looked a nice place to stop for a quick drink after a long days travel up from outer state. The “owner” served us and got our order wrong as we asked for a non alcoholic ginger beer… his response was this is not a cafe. Most, if not all bars I’ve been to has our own Australian bundaberg ginger beer available. He then persisted arguing about the fact that this was not a cafe and stormed out kicking myself and my whole family out, including my senior parents. We were not allowed to finish or even start our drinks we had purchased and we did not receive any refund at all. This “owner” then became verbally abusive to all of us in front of my child and aggressively attempted to escort my family out by the arm when we were already on our way. I feel very sad and very disappointed by this little man’s actions. This is not the way we do business here in our beautiful Country. I hope you think about your actions and appreciate each customer with respect as this goes both ways at the...
