I don't like giving Bad reviews and always try to leave constructive criticism. (This Is A Long Read )
We dined here 2 Friday nights in a row as I like to get a reasonable feel for a place before leaving a review.
The First Friday 1/12/23 we ordered 3 dishes
Salt and Peper Prawns which were good score 7.5 out of 10
Ho Fun Noodle with Chicken (Wet) Score 6 out of 10
A Chicken Dish with Long Green Chillies Score 4 out of 10
Second Friday 8/12/23 we ordered the Peeking Duck which was pre ordered as per there advice. (The Peeking Duck was Very Average at best) 5 out of 10
Peeking Duck, I have fallen for this SCAM overseas before,
You order the Duck however get VERY LITTLE of the Duck. Most goes into other dishes. they make.
First course is the Duck pancakes, they basically skin the Duck with very little meat attached to the skin if any, which you then roll up in a small pancake with Hoisin sauce a slice of cucumber and a stick of spring onion, about (3) bites in size, it"s more like an entre.
Second course of your Peeking Duck you can choose from a selection of dishes we selected the San Choy Bow as it was the most popular.
The San Choy Bow was more onion then anything else It was diced so small that you could not define the Duck from the Mushrooms or the Chinese Sausage
All 3 of us sampled the filling and we all disliked it. We did not even bother to roll it up in the lettuce cup to try .
The young lady whom appeared to be in charge was astounded that we did not want to eat it, she said "its the most popular dish here everybody loves it".
We ordered an additional dish of salt and pepper prawns to eat, then the Young Lady came back to our table and said that she had arranged a Duck Fried Rice.
We informed her we did NOT want the duck fried rice, just the Salt and Pepper Prawns we ordered. The Prawns arrived a short time later, we started eating the Prawns,
then to our amazement the Duck fried rice arrived and the young lady proceeded to serve the Duck Fried Rice into our bowls on top of our Prawns.
Three (3) times we told her we did not want the Duck fried Rice. The Fried Rice was oily and not pleasant tasting, calling it Duck Fried Rice was being generous
as there was by no stretch of the imagination NOT MUCH DUCK. We all agreed that this dinning experience was Very Much Below Average.
The service at this restaurant seems very professional, however It feels more like to rush you, so that they can seat more customers to fill your seat sooner.
Would I call this restaurant outstanding NO. It seems to be clean in the indoor and outdoor dinning area. There is a feeling of being rushed to order and eat your food.
Does the Food make me want to return No. There star dish the Peeking Duck does not warrant the Price or Hype others have commented on. (I have had the Real Deal)
Could the Young Lady in charge done things differently ,YES. She knew that we were not very happy with our meal.
Listen to your customers when they say No we do not want that dish.
Not Charge us the 50 cents for the take away food container for the duck fried rice that we had hardly touched. I have no Idea why we took it.
Not charged us for the corkage of our wine x 3 people $10.50
Numbers 2 and 3 may have done something to gain our appreciation for our poor experience, however they got and extra dish ordered ( S & P Prawns) as we need more food to complete the meal.
In my opinion she got the Duck Fried Rice made up so she could charge the FULL amount for the Peeking Duck to not have to compensate for our poor dinning experience.
The Duck was average at best. On top of it all this meal did not sit well in my stomach during the night. We will Not return to...
Read moreI have always loved the restaurant and recommended it to guests staying in Holiday units and houses(which is the industry I am involved in), and friends as the place to go for great Chinese. Tonight that all changed.
We ordered the Budget Pack "B", and I also ordered a King Prawn Omelette. The budget pack has a serve of Sweet "N: Sour Pork, soooo sweet, no sour and the pork overcooked and dry, the steamed dims sims seem to have shrunk to half the size they were and completely tasteless. The omelette, which I was so looking forward to came with the prawns cut up and lucky to be 3 prawns in total and the prawns still translucent, absolutely inedible!!!
I contacted Peking Duck and was told that the prawns are cut up so they cook through and there was no way it could not be cooked. Their answer was that I could drive back and pick up another, which is not an option. I only live over the bridge from them and suggested that they could come out in the rain and swap it with me, but for them, that wasn't an option. As for the rest of the complaint, this they chose to ignore.
The woman on the phone virtually called me a liar.
I can tell you now, I will NEVER return there again, apart from the lousy food, the follow up service on a complaints was disgraceful.
They were quite happy to take my money, paid by credit card, but not forthcoming in resolving the issue to what I as a customer consider a costly and time consuming exercise for me.
I am so sick of businesses that do not provide a service to a quality we as consumers expect and we as consumers having to absorb this.
14/04/14: Just a follow up, they did contact me again today, after I left a message offering to send them the photos I took of the omelette last night if they send me a mobile number. Again, they have offered to replace the meal if I return this week. My comment that had my 9 year old have eaten the raw prawns and become sick, this would have been a different matter. It wasn't a threat to them, it was a comment. The response was "Your kidding". I am truly over this now, they have my credit card details, they can reverse the payment for the omelette if they want, but I'm done...
Read moreI had been craving Peking duck for a while and discovered that there was a well-known place near my home, so I made a reservation and visited. According to Google, this dish requires a one-day advance booking, but due to frequent no-shows, the restaurant requires a confirmation call before your visit to request the duck dish. The reservation confirmation was processed quickly, which was great, and the phone service was also prompt.
The place has a spacious and open feel with an ocean view, and there were plenty of table options, which I appreciated. Since it was a cold day, they turned on the heater for us. Although it was a cloudy day, we were lucky enough to see a rainbow while waiting for our food, which made me happy.
The taste of the Peking duck was excellent. I personally like the leg portion, so I requested it to be cut separately, and they kindly accommodated my request. The dish normally comes with 10 pancakes, but we ordered 6 more. The second course allows you to choose between noodles or rice, and we opted for fried rice. The portion was very large, and it was light and not greasy, which made it taste clean.
As a side dish, we ordered stir-fried mushrooms and bok choy. The seasoning for this dish was a bit disappointing for me personally. However, when paired with the lightly seasoned fried rice, the sauce complemented it well.
One downside was that the server asked us if we wanted to order drinks about seven times, which felt a bit uncomfortable. We had chosen a quiet time to visit, but the atmosphere still felt somewhat chaotic, which was a bit of a...
