Disappointed from the start โ not worth stopping by if youโre not a local...
We stopped by Haig Street Kirra on a cold early morning, drawn in by the sign saying โPlease wait to be seated.โ We waited 5โ10 minutes out the front while three staff members stood behind the counterโฆ. not one acknowledged us, greeted us, or offered to seat us.
Eventually, we walked up to the counter to order takeaway coffees. The woman who served us didnโt really smile, didnโt ask if we wanted to dine in, and showed no interest in providing any kind of service beyond taking our order. However with some customers who were obviously regulars, were greeted with warmth.
We paid $19 for two small coffees and what we thought would be two hashbrowns. It was $5 for the hashbrowns alone, which turned out to be the size of my pinky finger.
When our order was ready, they didnโt call our name, we just saw it sitting on the counter. When we politely asked if it was ours, we were met with a โyes.โ
If youโre looking for a place with atmosphere, friendliness, or even just a smile, this isnโt it if youโre not a local. The miniature hashbrowns tasted fine, and the coffee was 50/50, but thatโs about all the...
ย ย ย Read more9/10 relaxing cafe by the beach vibes. When I was there, it was really sunny, nice music playing in the background and I could tell other diners were there for the relaxing vibes. Where I was seated, you could see the beach, a small part of the city skyline and the planes flying in and out of the airport which I really enjoyed. 10/10 staff - really friendly and happy to chat and really accommodating to requests I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and the fish and chips with salad. The Vietnamese iced coffee was not to my personal preference as I felt that it was a bit watered down (but to be fair I didn't drink it straight away). I personally would have expected a more concentrated coffee (that should keep me awake for 8hrs) with a large amount of condensed milk but this was not the case The fish had a bit of a fishy smell the tartare sauce helped cover some of the fishy smell. BUT the batter for the fish was so good! The chips were light and crunchy good with the tartare sauce to add just a bit of tang. The salad was refreshing and also flavourful - I reckon I could just have the salad on its own ๐ I would definitely...
ย ย ย Read moreThree of us went out for brunch but only one came back...no we all came back it just sounded more dramatic. Mind you we stayed at Haig Street Cafe for some time as the atmosphere was great, the tables and surroundings were clean, the service was full of radiance and the food was fantastic. It was 11am so the breakfast menu was still in play.
For me-Crispy polenta topped with sautรฉed wild mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, two poached eggs and wild rocket with a side of sweet tomato relish and I chucked hash browns on for extra pleasure
My partner had a special of gnocchi and our guest had Preserved lemon & turmeric hummus, baby spinach, roasted vegetables, quinoa, cherry tomatoes, chick peas, avocado and crispy halloumi topped with two poached eggs and dukkah spice. She exchanged the poached eggs for scrambled.
For me it was a YUM, from my partner it was a YUM and our guest seconded both opinions for another YUM.
Crisp clear flavours, very nice indeed. Reasonably priced food, the smiles and positive energy of the service staff was free.
Would not hesitate to return...
