Mediocre food and poor service do not equate to a pleasant dining experience. We had a 5.30pm booking, with a one and a half hour sitting. If you only allow 1 and a half hours for a sitting then your responsibility as the restaurant is to take our order promptly (our order was taken 20 minutes after we arrived) and serve the dishes efficiently to allow adequate time to eat. We ordered 3 starters and a main and side to share between 2 of us plus a glass of champagne each followed by a bottle of wine. The first 2 starters came out reasonably quickly - kingfish sashimi (the kingfish was cut far too thick and the flavours clashed in my mouth) followed by ocean trout crumpets (pleasant enough). Then there was a long wait for the 3rd starter - har gow dumplings (chewy, a bit tasteless and we couldn't find any scallop). Then another wait for the main (beef short rib + tempura eggplant). Our wine glasses were not re-filled promptly (for goodness sake, just leave the bottle on our table, we can serve ourselves). So we had the farcical situation of around 1/3 of a bottle of wine being sloshed into our wine glasses at 6.50pm while we were still 1/2 way through our main and being told we had 10 minutes to finish and leave as the next sitting had already arrived. At 6.59pm we were told we had to go. The reason I have not commented on the main we ordered is it is difficult to comment on a dish we had to scoff down (and did not finish) because we were being rushed out the door. We have never had the experience of being rushed at the end of our sitting in many years of dining out, we can only eat the dishes we ordered at the speed at which they were served. We did give our feedback when we went to pay. We were brushed off with no charge for the champagne, but the care...
Read moreAttentive service with a smile, tight space, though very effective layout, decor and functionality, great view, good vibes & feels comfortable, trendy and personable all at the same time! Service intervals were too far apart, single items for a table of 4 with 10-15 minute gaps, so we really couldn't soak it in our take the food in as one would. Everything was plated/ presented really well, so appealing to the eye and the taste buds, it could have been because they were busy, but the kingfish didn't taste if anything, the dumplings were all I could have had better at a local Yum Cha. Bao with the bugs and the beef were spot on and made up for slightly unsettling start. The Star was the pork belly curry, with chilli, fresh herbs & coconut rice, it was 'Perfect' in every way. The beef massamam curry, had the best version of the curry/ coconut combination I have had, the slow cooked beef paired well with it, though in my opinion it edged the perfect curry with a strong overtone, it should be subtle and harmonious and it just missed that mark. The stand outs to match the pork curry was the dessert, mango pannacotta was light, full of flavour, texture and prefect to...

Here's a quick bite of my recent solo dining adventure: Opting for the vegetarian banquet for one was a decision well made. The variety and quality of dishes showcased the kitchen's skill in crafting plant-based delights.
The organic tofu bao was a standout - a perfect balance of textures and flavours that had me wishing for seconds. The pad see ew, while tasty, could have benefited from a wedge of fresh lime or lemon to cut through the caramelized sweetness. However, this minor detail didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the dish.
The grand finale, the mango pannacotta dessert, was a tropical dream. The refreshing granita added to the coconut milk perfectly complemented the creamy pannacotta, which wasn't overly sweet but well balanced, creating a dessert that was both innovative and delicious.
Billy Chow isn't just about great food - the service was attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. The prices were reasonable, offering good value for the quality and quantity of...
