Can’t comment on the food because we didn’t get a chance to taste it. Why the one star then? Because they don’t let you share your experience without it. Oh, and also the appalling behaviour of the chef.
We visited here today with three very excited 5 year old girls ready to celebrate their best friend’s birthday starting with a sushi feast. (It’s worth noting here, yes - I said three 5 year olds, BUT all of whom are seasoned restaurant diners and know the rules around eating out and the etiquette expected when dining in public. My own of the three being half Japanese and so has had the extra strict and rigourous expectations of “Japanese style dining” drilled into her by her Dad - also in the restaurant business - since she was old enough to put hand to mouth.)
I’ll be the first to admit, the girls were a little rambunctious, and obviously excited for the fun day we had planned planned as they met outside and headed into the restaurant. Did they enter as quietly as church mice? No. Did we, as parents, intend to let them run riot and disturb other diners while we ate? Also no. Absolutely not. Did any of them get a chance to display their big girl behaviour and dining manners while enjoying the sushi they were looking forward to? NOT AT ALL!
As soon as they sat down (still very enthusiastically chatting - I’ll acknowledge that, but not screaming the place down or destroying property) the waitress jumped on them/us advising, in no uncertain terms that they were far too noisy and affecting the other diners (two, on the other side of the restaurant). Before we even had a chance to settle them and give the set standard “we’re eating out / we’re mindful of others please” spiel, and let them prove themselves, the chef barked at us in the most disdainful and derogatory manner to “Get Out! Go! You can’t stay. Go now!”
I get it, I do. No one wants to go out and have their meal disrupted by children, myself included when I am dining sans child. What old mate cranky chef didn’t get was that this is not what would have happened today and, as a result of his narrow minded approach to customer service, he lost out on what would’ve been a sizeable bill (when given more than 30seconds to prove themselves, our girls can absolutely do demure and mindful dining… but they also have big appetites, so huge loss in the lunchtime profit stakes for him there).
If anyone’s behaviour needed critiquing today, it was that of the chef’s. It was appalling and absolutely uncalled for. Your restaurant is yours, and you can run it how you want but just be mindful that it’s not fine dining, and if you’re open for lunch on a weekend in the middle of the Gold Coast, maybe just pop a sign on the door advising that you hate kids and they’re not welcome. I don’t care how good the food is, I wouldn’t return (with or without my child)...

My culinary journey began with a bowl of their miso soup, which was phenomenal. The depth of flavor in the soup set a high standard for the meal, offering a rich umami taste that was both comforting and invigorating.
Moving on from the soup, I was presented with the medium sashimi platter. The presentation was a visual spectacle, with each piece of sashimi delicately placed on a bed of ice, separating it within a beautifully crafted presentation bowl. This not only maintained the freshness of the fish but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the dish. Each slice of sashimi was exquisitely fresh, offering a taste reminiscent of the finest sushi I’ve experienced in Japan. The vibrant colors and the freshness of the seafood created a melody of flavors that danced on my palate.
The climax of my dining experience was the nigiri sushi. Each piece was a testament to the chef’s artistry, with the fish being exceptionally fresh and tender, melting effortlessly in my mouth. The rice was cooked to perfection, with each grain perfectly seasoned and proportioned, which complemented the fish wonderfully. The generous portions of seafood on each nigiri were not just visually appealing but also spoke volumes about the restaurant’s commitment to quality and generosity.
The staff at Osaka Kaiten Sushi deserves special mention for their exceptional service. Their attention to ensuring a positive dining experience was evident in their friendly demeanor and attentiveness. The ambiance of the restaurant complemented the meal perfectly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Osaka Kaiten Sushi stands as a paragon of sushi excellence on the Gold Coast. From the phenomenal miso soup to the visually stunning and delicious sashimi platter, and finally to the sublime nigiri, every aspect of the meal was crafted to perfection. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an authentic and high-quality Japanese...
Read moreThe rudest restaurant ever! The chef is a Racist? My friend and I. and three girls aged at 6~10 waiting outside of the restaurant to be seated and we're told by the waitor that chef is not happy for us to go in as we have three girls and they could be very noisy and impacting the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is not a fine dining restaurant, and there were two much younger kids in the restaurant already. I questioned The waitor why the other two kids can be there, and his response absolutely blew my mind: because they were not sitting together and they are two separate group of guests. Our girls are well behaved kids and have never been shouting Or being nosiy when eating. I was absolutely totally disgusted by the attitude of this restaurant. I have been living in Australia for 18 years and have never had been rejected by any of restaurant by any reason. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone not matter how good the food is presented from the review photos, the attitude to the customers are the essence and basics on top of every...
