Congratulations to the barista here in his big boy suit—you’ve officially made asking for a coffee feel like an inconvenience.
Popped in (again) to the café downstairs at our hotel (Crowne Plaza) because it was raining and I needed to feed my 7-month-old. Already had low expectations after waiting over 30 minutes for breakfast that morning with zero apology, zero acknowledgement, and zero urgency. But hey—it was raining, and I thought, “How bad could a coffee be?”
Turns out, worse than the weather.
I politely asked if they were still serving coffee (you know, because it was late afternoon and some cafés stop). What I got in return was an eye-roll of a response: “Ah yeah, we have a coffee machine… so yeah, we make coffees.” Cue smug chuckle from his colleague, as if sarcasm is a substitute for service.
Sorry—didn’t realise consideration was so funny.
I reminded him I was simply checking if they were still open for coffee. He looked a little sheepish after that—probably realised he was being unnecessarily rude to a woman holding a baby asking a basic question.
Look, I’ve managed teams at some of the biggest hospitality names in Australia. If this guy’s trying to climb the ladder, he’s firmly stuck on the first rung. Pro tip: You can only afford to be rude after you’ve nailed the basics. Like, I don’t know… good coffee? Or a smile?
In hindsight, I should’ve braved the rain with my umbrella...

Service was slow from then on when it came to getting table water, ordering food & drinks & anything else. The food was great (no complaints on the time for those as we ordered a large meal & felt it came out in a timely manner). We had a share plate with a bit of everything & the steak was so yummy and tender. The coleslaw is quite good as well. I had a chocolate fondant for dessert & that was decent but the main was the star. So overall food & atmosphere were great but would appreciate more attentive service. Would also note that the staff let us split the bill how we wanted as some had to leave earlier which made things...
Read moreIt was fairly quiet when I arrived Wednesday evening for the GC marathon weekend so was seated quickly by a very pleasant gentleman. My eye filet was ok but not the same when sliced in two and cooked. The chops were quite crispy and good. I did enjoy the pink gin and elderflower sour cocktail. Went back the next morning to meet a GC friend for coffee and a catch up. We were well looked after by Kitty who supplied us with great coffees and a carafe of iced water. She was so pleasant. Also had a battered fish and chips dinner another night and it was really good. The servers were again, very...
