My parents, wife & I have just had lunch at Little Provence to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday.
The restaurant is bright, airy and well appointed. Fittings are in keeping with a Provençale theme but remain tasteful
The menu is small but focussed on quality over quantity.
The petite quiche lorraine were delicious, with beautifully crisp, buttery pastry. My wife was very impressed with the cheese souffle. Mains were equally delicious. My wife loved the beef cheeks with polenta & a small taste confirmed her view - rich, well flavoured & the polenta providing a perfect foil for that richness. My mother was delighted with the gnocchi, and dad & I both enjoyed the lamb shanks - the ratatouille was delicious & went beautifully with the fall-apart tender lamb.
My father was the only one to take a dessert but was mightily impressed with the lemon tart, which the Patron added ice cream to as a special request.
The wine list is not huge but is well-curated & designed to match the food.
As for service, we were looked after by a delightful young lady who understands customer service, is possessed of a lovely disposition & remained engaging & good humoured despite my father's really bad 'Dad Jokes'. The Patron was also very engaging & customer focussed.
In all, a great experience in an enjoyable setting. Little Provence knows what it is, knows the food it serves & does so very well & without pretension. For well made, delicious food, served by excellent staff at a very good price, this little restaurant is...
Read moreA delightful new local French bistro in Eatons Hill, yes Eatons Hill. 10 mins from our place. My wife and I decided spur of the moment lunch on Thursday, one month after they opened. Bistro classics like snails, souffle, duck and beef cheeks all superbly executed and delivered with enjoyable service. Visual, aroma and taste senses are all rewarded. And the price reminds of lunch in France: souffle or snails less than $20, mains less than $30. The cheapest and best meal of the day. Served happily to an appreciative clientele. Restricted menu and wine list but so what; the style is laid back, unpretentious and so far from haute. There is more than enough to choose from and they all look great. It's like eating with family, if your family knew how to make a gorgeous cheese souffle, and fabulous duck a l'orange. Even the mashed potato is memorable, with just enough potato added to the French butter, to call it that. Pass the Côtes du Rhône dear, my arteries need a rinse. Wish we had room for the lemon tart- next visit
and Romain the owner happily provided takeaways for the duck and cheek that we had the cheek to overorder and could...
Read moreWhat can I say except we had a terrific meal here and luckily we booked because the place was full.
We started with coffin bay oysters, the mushroom velouté, calamari, and I indulged in the soufflé. Luckily for me there was an early season truffle in the house so we decided to splurge and it was well worth it.
We had mains of duck à l'orange, fillet of snapper and beef cheeks. Every dish was perfect!! Dessert was coffee and Armagnac.
From start to finish the service was great, the food outstanding and of a standard you would expect to see in a hatted venue.
Fantastic wine list to suit any budget and options as well as aperitifs and digestifs and a really good coffee.
Great value, friendly service and fantastic food! Very highly...
