It was my partner's birthday today and I had been eager to take her to the new offering from the people involved with Chai Thai (One of our favourite restaurants) since I found out about it's opening. I called up and made a reservation and let the staff know that it was my partner's birthday and asked if they did anything special as a nice little surprise for my partner. They suggested balloons but I was clear that she didn't like anything showy as she is quite a reserved person and they suggested that they could offer a cupcake which I accepted and thanked them in advance for. Cut to this evening, we arrive at Phat Boy and I let the staff member know that I had made a reservation. She asked where we would like to sit (it was a bit quiet and there were a lot of seats open) and I know it's trivial but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't have a table reserved for us as I wanted to make the night special for my partner. When it came to ordering drinks my partner can't handle sweet drinks and asked out of the Thai ice tea and the Lemon ice tea, which was less sweet. The server although very friendly was not sure (as she had never tried them) and advised that she would bring us the less sweet option. When the drinks were brought out she brought the Thai ice tea and even though I like sweet drinks it was far too sweet even for me. Luckily I had ordered another drink for myself that my partner could handle so I sucked it up and swapped and had the Tea myself. We ended up ordering the mixed entree (Pictured) to start. The chicken and satay sauce were the highlights, however the rest of it left much to be desired with the san choy bow tasting burnt and unappetizing. For mains we ordered the DIY Salad and the Chicken and Cashew. The salad was very safe and lacked any innovation but it was nice of one of the servers to show my partner the best way to make it. At the end of the day you are basically paying to assemble your own meal. Don't get me wrong I understand the appeal but I wouldn't personally order it. I had ordered the Chicken and Cashew which unfortunately tasted extremely average to me (and unfortunately was slightly cold as they delivered it whilst we were still getting through our entrees) so much so that I only managed to get through half of it. The server was nice enough about it and said she would let the chef know. After we had finished our mains the music stopped and Happy Birthday music started playing. I tried to flag the waitress down to stop but unfortunately they went through with it all, popping confetti poppers and presenting the cupcake with a huge sparkler, much to my partners embarrassment. I was very thankful and understand that they had good intentions however I had mentioned on the phone that she did not like big shows like this. The desert itself was very tasty though I must say. All in all I have to be honest I was pretty disappointed with the experience but I understand that these things happen. Maybe we will try again in the future and hopefully have a...

What a disaster - absolute waste of money and time - the WORST THAI RESTAURANT EVER I went with my work colleagues for a team lunch today. I ordered Green Curry with chicken and rice. It was a not a lunchtime special so I was surprised when they got rice and curry on the same plate. Anyway, that's not a big issue. The real problem is, the Thai Green curry tasted like sugar syrup plus there were no veggies. I could not eat it after 2 spoons or so. When I raised this, the manager said she would replace it. So I got Panang curry (with advice from the Manager who confirmed it was amazing) - it was so salty that I could not eat after the first spoon. I asked my colleagues to taste it just incase my taste buds were playing up, all of them said it was not edible at all. So I raised it with the Manager again and asked for a refund. The manger refunded me 50% of the price of the curry because they had to make it twice and it was still no good. I don't understand how that was my problem if their food was not good. Plus as they served rice and curry on one plate, I could not eat the rice also. But they only refunded me 50% of the price of the curry.

It is an embarrassment in the name of a fancy restaurant. Moreover, the Manager had a very still look and no smile on her face. She even told me other people are getting green curries and they have no issues. I felt very offended as if I was making up the whole thing. A lot of people do not tell when they don't like the food. For example, my colleagues did not like their food also and left half of it, but they chose not to raise it.

I would strongly advise not to go there. The worst Thai restaurant I have...

Arrival, met by a pleasant lady, asked for a table for two, shown table then told to order by QR code and points to table. We were left to our own devices. It's not that we can't use a QR code but it's not what we were expecting for a restaurant in the W Hotel in it.

Duck spring rolls were quite crisp l, not too oily and full of ingredients, some duck was present with a chilli sweet chilli sauce, all in all they were pretty good.

Pulled pork Roti, this was an interesting meal, bit of a DIY and it was very tasty, mix of pickled vegetables pulled pork and chilli sauce in Rotie was just scrumptious and went down a treat, flavours were well balanced and I had to defend it from being picked off my plate by my wife.

Chicken Chilli and Basil, was small and lacking flavour. It was edible but could have been something quite good. Based on the above meals this one needs a little more work and it would be a hit.

Table service was poor, staff were not unpleasant but they were not friendly or engaging, no "Hi, how are you?" They would not take empty plates or glasses away when finished just loaded more plates and glasses on the table. We eventually had to start giving them back to them and even then no effort or interest was taken to clear the rest of the table. Nor did they wipe it down after they took the dishes away so we were sat at a table with minor spills, sticky sauce and condensation from glasses of drinks previously ordered. Again these simple things that can changes to their service that will make a huge difference and make this a place that people will want to come back to again and again.

Phat Boy you are close but...

I was drawn to this restaurant after trying their skewers at a recent night market event held in the Botanic Gardens. Their skewers were chargrilled and full of flavour. When I came earlier today for lunch I was half expecting the same selection of chargrilled skewers to try. Unfortunately there were only one selection of chicken skewers. If only there were other selections to choose from as well! I ended up choosing the duck spring roll which was recommended by the waitress and also tried the green curry chicken. The chicken pieces were freshly deep fried and was cooked relatively well. I think the chicken pieces were slightly overcooked and a bit dry but given there were lots of green curry sauce, the sauce somewhat complimented the chicken. The duck spring roll was decent. It was what one would expect from a spring roll but certainly not something that had a huge "wow" factor. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially when we had trouble downloading the digital menu. I think the phone reception was quite poor so it made downloading the menu quite difficult. The staff apologies profusedly and said they only had the digital menus go live yesterday and there still appears to be some glitches. Price-wise I believe it was very reasonably priced, especially for freshly made Thai food. The restaurant was clean and tidy and had good ambience. It was slightly noisy though due to the restaurant becoming busy during lunch time, which made it a bit difficult to maintain a conversation without having to resort to shouting over the top of everyone else. I will come back again to try other dishes.

I was SO excited to come here but left feeling so disappointed, we came to celebrate a friends graduation and made a booking for 7.45pm - they called me an hour before the booking saying that the kitchen will close at 8pm - I wish they let me know a little sooner so I could have organised to go elsewhere because when we arrived we were so rushed, we had to leave the graduation early just to arrive in time to order and it’s one of those places you have to scan the QR code and order online but when we did the order wouldn’t even go through. Anyway food wise, in my opinion both the DIY options were sooo bland, the meat was dryer than beef jerky and there was no sauce or anything to put on it. I literally had to drink water with it just to be able to swallow it. The mushroom san choy bow had no san choy bow flavour to it, it tasted like packet dried shiitake mushroom with no sauce and we got 3 lettuce leaves to use. When my fiend arrived we asked to order a celebration drink and the guy working barely spoke English and had no idea what we meant, he came about 10 minutes later and then told us the bar was closed. Overall we left feeling really deflated and underwhelmed after what was supposed to be a really special night. Honestly I wouldn’t bother coming here as the food is a bit off, none of the flavours are right.
