Otto's Bakery — Restaurant in Hahndorf

Wow! I first visited this bakery as I saw they had an “award winning vanilla slice” and man they weren’t wrong. Was absolutely by far the best vanilla slice I’ve ever had! I’m from melbourne with plenty of variety, so a big statement for me to say. I returned to Ottos again 2 days later, and grabbed another 2 vanilla slices to take home, a loaf of banana bread and a nice pasty to eat there. As I had my hands full from shopping, the lovely lady at ottos helped me to the table as I was not able to carry everything. She then decided to help me to the car however it was parked to far away. She was kind enough to put it all in the fridge for me to collect later. I did not catch her name which was a shame, but a lovely lady who wears glasses - thank you 😁 I ended up collecting the food an hour later, and had a lovely slice of the banana bread when I got home. Again, the best banana bread and vanilla slice I’ve ever had! The custard was so fluffy almost like cream but not heavy. Banana bread was so moist and delicious and the cream cheese icing was to die for. Im salivating just writing this. Very impressed indeed with this Generous Adelaide Hills Gem and a great time of the year - Autumn (Fall) - to go for a drive and see the Leaves etc. The southern end is now where all the action is in the Hahndorf main street.

Have not been here for years because everytime we passed around mid morning, there was a huge lineup. These days they have worked out superfast service so it is much easier.

Although the drive is great all year round, for easy access, coming from Adelaide, may I suggest heading straight to Autoban Mt Barker exit and come back into Hahndorf via Mt Barker Road, into OTTO'S on your left as you enter Hahndorf as a bit of a scenic drive.

This, excellent value for money, award winning Bakery has a plethora of wonderful menu items. I won't spoil your choice. Everything is great including the coffee and service. Get in early that's all I need say. 😃 OK ... Pepper Pie (but don't tell anyone ... Leave some for me 🤣) P.S. Staff go the extra mile for you as well....

Beef Pie $5.80

Good morning, So while in Hahndorf I walked down to Ottos Bakehouse & Coffee Shop had a look at the menu and got their plain beef pie. I think it's the best way to judge a bakery, is with their stock standard go-to pie. The pie looked ok, bit of a crack on the lid. The top wasn't to flakey, but it was terribly dry and had that biscuit.like consistency and texture to it. No issues with the pastry being raw. Biting into it, I could first taste that hint of onion and was thinking this tastes pretty similar to a pie I had last week. The mince was ok, no grissle , had a light brown look to it. Are they sharing the same recipe ? Finished the pie off. Taste wise it was just ok - a middle of the road pie. The serving temp was good and the pie held up. 9 Main St, Hahndorf SA 5245
