What a joke. The woman who took our order told us that she didn’t have $5 for change wanting us to use a card instead of cash. The cook was more interested in drinking his cans of energy drinks and was so slow doing any orders. Clearly he didn’t want to be there. He called out an order number for a take away and when nobody answered immediately he gave it to another customer who was dining in still in the take out box. He put my scallops in a basket in the deep fryer and put them in the oil. Then went back to his drink before putting the piece of fish in another basket for our second order. The scallops were cooked and drained. 5 minutes later he put the scallops back in the oil and another 5 minutes later he finally boxed up our orders and called our number. I asked him about the chips as there only minimal chips in the box and the majority of them were crumbs. I also asked why my scallops were double cooked. The order was for 7 scallops and chips but what I got was 6 scallop pieces not full scallops and they were like rubber marbles, as for the chips I was told that was the size serving for that order. I didn’t care about the size of the serving of chips but the lack of quality. He was so rude and said that’s what you ordered. When I asked if he had any serviettes he threw the holder in front of me as it was behind the counter. Very disappointed with the service and the food. Would Never recommend...

Disappointing Service, Average Food

We arrived around 7:25 PM and found the restaurant completely empty. When we asked if they were open, the staff member said the kitchen closed at 8:30 PM. We paid, only to be told we had to finish at 8 pm and that our order would be ready in five minutes

In reality, our food took 10–15 minutes to arrive, well past the promised five minutes. At one point they even asked we try to be done by 7:45 -7.50 PM! Throughout our meal, both staff kept checking the clock and reminding us to hurry up. The dishes themselves were just average—but not worth the rush. What really ruined the experience was the constantly shifting closing time and the unprofessional way they treated customers. If you’re going to close early, that’s okay—but have the decency to tell your customers up front instead of seating them taking their money, and then turning into clock-watchers who can’t wait to kick you out.

I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this place to anyone. For decent food and fair service, there are better options nearby.

Zero stars...

As an Asian, I regretfully announce that the staff working the afternoon shift here is a very disrespectful young man who has no experience of international hospitality ( 27/10/2024).

The oysters are great but the service was very disrespectful. He acted disrespectful and rude taking my order while completely normal to other Caucasian looking customers. I asked ‘what is the Oyster today?’. He replied. ‘It is just Oysters’. He also threw my food on the counter - a spammed of the plate and threw my take away box. I am very very shocked and disappointed. I double checked with him ‘ did I speak anything offends you?’. He said. ‘I am just struggling with accents’, which is also very confusing as I haven’t encountered any communication problems since I came to Hobart.

I will post my experience honestly as an Asian customer for the reference of other Asian customers: the food is good, but the attitude will not...

On our first night in Hobart, we braved the cold and decided to get some seafood takeaway. It was the first one that we saw as we walked along the pier and we cannot take our eyes off their giant menu. We went up those stairs and we saw an empty place. Eventually, the staff came rushing upstairs and was quite apologetic as she was the only server for the evening and has to be at different places and only one of her. Not to worry at all. We ordered the fish platter. I think it was $42. At first we thought it was rather pricy but, when we saw what was served, we were amazed on how good valued it was. The fish was so delicious. Everything in the platter was so fresh and tasty. Except for a few chips, we ate everything and enjoyed every single part of the platter. Overall, an amazing place. Don’t be fooled by its plain interior - it has amazingly wholesome, delicious food. Yum! Highly recommended.

A "local" insider tip - On the bottom floor they sell "fresh fish" right off the boat. You can buy any of the fresh fish (we chose Bluefin Trevally & Orange Roughy) and they will cut & skinned for you. You can then take upstairs and they will fry it for you (batter, crumb, plain, etc...). Just add a small order of fries and you have the BEST fish & chips in Tasmania. Also is BYO so pick up a few cans of our favorite ale or bottle of wine at the Salamanca Market...and you have a wonderful fried seafood meal & local experience. No frills, not fancy but oh so good! We were here just before tourist season started (no lines) but well worth the wait if you have to. Tomorrow we're going back to have fresh squid and scallops fried to order. If you love fried seafood, this is the freshest you can get.
