I’ve always loved Hobart Coffee Roasters and considered it one of my favorite cafes, but today’s experience was nothing short of disappointing. My partner and I visited around 1:45 p.m., having checked Google for the opening hours, which stated 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Based on that information, we thought we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal. However, we were unaware that the cafe actually closes at 2 p.m., and no one informed us when we placed our order.

We ordered eggs your way and two coffees, and while the food arrived within 10 minutes, the way we were treated afterward was completely unprofessional. At 2:15 p.m., the waitress came over, not just to inform us that the cafe was closing, but also stated that in five minutes, she could pack it up the leftover food—essentially rushing us to leave. We ended up packing the food, only to find it soggy and unenjoyable. It felt incredibly inconsiderate and made us feel unwelcome, as though we were an inconvenience for simply dining in.

If customers are expected to leave by 2 p.m., it should be clearly communicated at the time of ordering—not when they’re in the middle of their meal. And, if we had been informed earlier about the closing time, we would have chosen to go somewhere else instead of being put in this uncomfortable situation.

As a former server, I understand the frustration of lingering guests, but we were rushed out in 30 minutes. This was unprofessional and could have been handled more respectfully.

This experience left a really bad impression. While I’ve always liked this cafe, today’s visit made me rethink whether I’d...

After a long morning I was starving and in need of coffee and I stumbled in here and was not disappointed! All the staff looked up as I arrived and warmly greeted me, it was a genuine happy greeting which started the experience off just right. One woman helped me through the menu and gave me some great suggestions. The menu food and bev menu was extensive and they had a daily rotating array of food in the front cabinet along with a standard menu. Everything looked yum and fresh so it was a hard choice. I settled on the scrambled egg bagel with smoked salmon which was delicious and very filling. She then promptly cleared the only table left and came back immediately to clean it. The coffee was great too and made perfectly. The place was busy but the staff flourished under the pressure and provided exceptional, warm and fast service. They even knew all the regulars by name and went to the effort of greeting and farewelling them all by their first name. Great place for breakfast and lunch and the service...

We were recently in Tasmania for our ten year anniversary and, as is the way, I immediately went looking for a local cafe I could call my haunt for the duration of our trip. The first cafe I walked into was Hobart Coffee Roasters and I saw no need to go anywhere else. My first impression was fantastic. Lovely coffee, at the ideal temperature, flavour and sweetness; a combination that, sadly, not many cafes get right. I walked back in after my first sip and complimented the barista in fact. What made it better, that consistency was there no matter who was on the machine that day. I didn't realise I had walked past a couple of cafes between our hotel and here, but once I noticed, I still didn't try them. Do yourself a favour and give these guys a try. I do consider myself a bit of a coffee snob and I loved this place. Final bonus, the prices weren't too bad. I didn't try the food so can't comment there, and the venue was a bit small inside; not many tables, but otherwise,...

Wife and I found this place while walking around the Hobart waterfront. We only had capaccinos but they had other items on offer. The staff were very friendly and attentive. My wife ordered and then went to the toilet (as they call the restroom here). Of course, this was the precise moment they called her name fot pickup. Even though I was not involved in the order, the staff did associate me with the order so I got the caps. We sat in the window corner and watched people walk by. The coffee was smooth and wonderful. The vibes in the shop were great and a lot of people came, drank or took out. We enjoyed our stop there. The wife told me later that you HAVE to visit the ladies toilet if you can. It is made up like one on the trains in Japan. Can't speak to the men's room but that would be a kick. Worth a stop if you are in the area. We will certainly be back next time we visit.

If you're looking for great coffee in Hobart, stop searching — Hobart Coffee Roaster has you covered (and then some). From the moment you walk in, the staff greet you with such big smiles you'd think you just won the lottery. They're friendly, efficient, and make the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. Now, the coffee... wow. It's so good I seriously considered asking if they offered a loyalty card — or better yet, a subscription service directly into my veins. The food is just as impressive, with a menu full of delicious options that actually make it hard to choose (a good problem to have). Prices are very reasonable, especially given the quality, and the central location is super handy. All wrapped up in a warm, cozy atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and stay all day. Absolutely worth a visit — just don't blame me when you get hooked!
