Van Diemens Land Creamery is an absolute gem and it’s easy to see why it's so popular! This place is a town favorite, and the long lines speak for themselves—people are willing to wait for their amazing ice creams, and after trying it myself, I totally understand why. I was staying at a hotel right across from the creamery, so naturally, I indulged quite a bit! In just two days, I tried eight different flavors, and I can’t believe how unique and delightful each one was. Here’s a quick rundown of what I tried: Lavender with White Chocolate: This was one of my absolute favorites! The floral notes from the lavender mixed with creamy white chocolate created a beautifully balanced, smooth taste that’s unlike any ice cream I’ve had before. Hokey Pokey: Another standout flavor! The crunchy honeycomb pieces mixed in added a great texture and sweetness, making it an instant favorite. Caramelized Figs: Rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet—this was a perfect treat with a unique depth of flavor. Plain Vanilla: Sometimes, simplicity wins, and their vanilla was so creamy and full of natural flavor that it stood out among the other choices. I also sampled Hazelnut, Banana Caramel, Pistachio, and Calabrian Rum ice creams—all delicious in their own ways, with Pistachio and Banana Caramel offering particularly rich and satisfying flavors. One unique aspect of Van Diemens is their selection of dried ice creams. I picked up a dried banana ice cream, and I can’t wait to try it as it seems like a fun twist on traditional ice cream. The staff was friendly and handled the large crowd well, making sure everyone got their orders quickly despite the long lines. Overall, if you’re in town, this place is absolutely worth a visit. With its wide range of unique flavors, excellent service, and vibrant atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for any ice cream lover!

I give 4* because the ice-cream were very tasty, the place is in a perfect location, the staff was very helpful and nice. Thank you! However, note to the owner: please invest in proper ice cream spoons, something either non-freeze or with trigger release or similar. This will make it much easier for your staff, each of the team members will distribute perfect size scoops each time and the service will be much quicker. I was ordering 4 ice creams with 2 scoops each and it took a long time for each scoop to be loaded onto a cone as the spoons were super sticky; I imagine it’s pretty frustrating for your team to fight with the ice cream while there is a long line of clients waiting (my guess was about 15 people inside and another 15 outside). It wasn’t just our server, I saw all 3 of them doing the best they could with the tools they have. Otherwise, probably the best ice creamery in Hobart!

Visiting Hobart and went in search of Van Dorman’s Land Creamery because a friend recommended it. Loved the salted lime sorbet and lemon gelato. Finished it and bought another one because it was just too good. I took one star away because they only allow you to try two flavours which is ridiculous when you are spending a lot of money on the ice cream you want to make sure you are getting something you like. What if the flavours you try are not nice? And then you have to guess which flavours you might like and still didn’t like it. So I kept it safe but really would have loved to try some other flavours. In Sydney all our ice cream shops allow you to try all the different flavours so you can purchase something you like. I wanted to try your award winning ice creams flavours but was worried if I didn’t like it so kept to the same flavours I usually purchase.
