Queenâs Pastry is not just a bakery. Itâs a life experience. Itâs pastry church. Itâs where croissants ascend to the heavens and return as buttery gifts to mortals like us.
I went in thinking, âIâll just grab a coffee.â Rookie mistake. The second you step inside, youâre hit with the smell of butter, sugar, and joy â itâs like being hugged by a Parisian grandmother who only wants to feed you pastries until you physically canât move. The pastry cabinet? Dangerous. Itâs a glossy, flaky lineup of pure temptation. You donât choose what to order â the pastries choose you.
The croissants are so perfectly flaky they could double as confetti at a wedding. The tarts are tiny masterpieces, almost too pretty to eat (almost). And then there are the specials â things youâve never thought about eating, but once you do, youâll never stop craving. Itâs unfair how good everything is. Honestly, they should come with a disclaimer: âWarning: may ruin you for all future bakeries.â
The coffee? Strong enough to resurrect you after one too many Tassie wines the night before. The staff? Absolute legends â warm, welcoming, and just the right amount of âYes, you do need that second pastry.â The vibe? Bright, cozy, and buzzing with people who clearly know this is the good stuff.
By the time I left, I was carrying a box of pastries like it was a newborn child, whispering âshhhâ every time someone bumped me. Zero regrets.
Final verdict: Queenâs Pastry is the monarch of Hobartâs food scene. All hail the butter, all hail the sugar, all hail...
Read moreOnly in Hobart for 5 days, but we discovered this place our first morning and loved it so much we decided to go every day. Great service, great coffee, great food. The only letdown was one staff member working the afternoon on Monday, and a problem with the food. We dropped in while she was talking to a friend over the counter. She didnât greet us, made a strange biphobic joke to her friend (we laughed because we were uncomfortable) and then when we left with our order of a plain croissant. I canât eat meat, and this shouldnât have been a problem, but when I bit into the pastry I found there was ham inside! My partner went back to complain and get a new croissant for me, only to find that the staff member was hardly apologetic. Youâd think a bakery that sells vegan options would care more about dietary restrictions? It was a disappointing experience. Weâll continue to visit for the remainder of our stay, as we love their food (usually) and coffee, but this left a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasnât just...
Read moreSubpar service and average donuts.
After visiting Queens Pastry twice this year (because you can't always judge a place on 1 visit), I was quite disappointed and shocked by the rude and pretentious attitude of the staff on both occasions. This was highlighted when we cleaned up after ourselves and brought our plates back to the counter, which would generally be met with gratitude, but was instead ignored. A staff member looked up to see the plate but no eye contact, nod, smile, thank you or goodbye as we left. Forget service, we were shocked by the apathetic attitude and lack of basic manners. It should be noted that this was not peak hour and there were 3 staff members present in this small cafe.
Our donuts were also unfortunately fairly average. Flavours were uninspired and donuts tending to the soggy side. If you were in town and felt like a donut, other donut joints I'd recommend over Queens include Lady Hester's and Small fry, but spare yourselves the unsatisfying...
