They dont even deserve a single star.

I bought a noodle meal which I paid $12.50 for and had only 5 pieces of chicken and had a very tiny little veges, it was soaked with so much soy sauce was disgusting to eat. Not to mention that this was a meal I customed over the phone with Zey (restaurant manager) when I placed the order. I made a complaint about that to Zey and then he apologised and requested us to come in any day to make it up for us for another meal.

So today we went there as per his request to collect the meal and he showed absolutely disgusting behaviour saying that he can't offer another meal, which he promised over the phone. He was shouting at us infront of other customers and he disclosed whole situation to the customers at the time in the restaurant and got them involved too. We came because you asked us to come and your behaviour was absolutely disgusting to see.

We paid a reasonable price expecting to receive a satisfied meal which we didn't receive and we went there's as per his request as he said he was happy to offer a meal. This is absolutely pathetic behaviour he showed.

Customer service goes a long way and doesn't matter how tasty your food if you treat customers like this.

OFFER WORTH FOOD FOR THE PRICE YOU CHARGE FOR!!!

You just lost a regular customer and I will make sure all my friends are aware of your so called...

If you're in the mood for Malaysian dishes and you've seen thus place pop up in your online search then a few words of advice....book ahead. Sawak Cafe was packed to the rafters when I first walked in.

Was met with very friendly staff member who showed me my table. It's a small place so it kind of felt a bit squashed in with limited room to manoeuvre. Their were a good amount of options available, meat, vegetarian and Halal option also available. Once you've decided just head up to the counter to order and pay fir your meal.

I literally waited fir about only 10 minutes before my entree came out, which was spiced chicken wings. Then closely followed the main which I'd chosen the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang and a bottle of juice from the fridge. This all came to just under $23 which was good value,but......

Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious but I had come with a bit of an appetite and with all the lovely food smells around me I guess it made me more hungrier than usual. I felt that the Nasi Lemak was a bit smaller of a portion than it could be. I would have been quite happy to pay more if the portion was a little bigger.....but this didn't take away from the experience, as I said it was delicious. It just means next time I might order some dessert 😉

Overall, definitely worth checking out...

Staff are lovely, prices are decent. Food-wise, here are my ratings for each dish as someone who’s grown up in Southeast Asia: Teh Tarik $7 : 2/5, doesn’t quite have the rich, deep flavour of a classic teh Tarik, but at least it doesn’t taste like English breakfast tea with milk, which it unfortunately does at some places Chicken curry with rice: 2/5, curry is watery and a little too sweet for our liking, the spices don’t really come through Tom yum noodle soup: 3/5, again a little lacking in the richness of flavour, kind of tastes like a stock cube??? spicy sambal udon: 4/5, decent with good amount of spice and sambal flavour, nice dark colour with the sauce

Overall, this is still somewhere I might come to for a quick bite at an alright price point, if im craving a bit of Malaysian cuisine. However, it won’t really hit the spot if you’re familiar with how these dishes...

As authentic as you’d get (in Hobart)! Was looking for Singaporean/Malaysian fare and chanced upon Sawak. Unassuming, tables filled with caucasians and asians alike, so we didn’t know what to expect. Ordered Char Kway Teow (combo) and Laksa (Chicken). CKT mild wok hey, Tastes extremely similar to home. Definitely worth tummy space especially if you’re craving familiar food! Laksa broth is closer to the curry chicken noodles you can get in SG, which is why I’d recommend to order it with chicken! Noodles is a slight miss (though by default it’s served with bee hoon), probably due to difference in supplier/supplies. Overall, will definitely dine here again and would recommend to all my SG/MY buddies if they are in Hobart!
