This place was excellent. The service was a little slow, but that's only because mine host was so chatty and friendly - to everyone. That's hardly a bad thing.
Food was excellent. Everything is cooked fresh to order, and it show.
I had a traditional eggs benny without all the weird extras and modifications that some places think is cool. And it wasn't on sourdough for a change; well done. The eggs were poached perfectly, it had lashings of tasty ham, and a generous helping of hollandaise sauce. Delicious.
My wife went for ham, cheese and tomato toastie, which she loved. They prepare it just the way she likes it, including putting salt and pepper on the tomato before toasting, rather than expecting you to do it yourself. Everything is gluten free, which we hadn't had before, but it didn't detract from the flavour in any way.
Coffee was pretty good too. Maybe not the best I've ever had, but I'd be happy to drink their coffee again.
Sounds like they have a lot of regular customers, as the staff seemed to know nearly everyone by name. I can understand why, as they make you feel welcome and comfortable, don't mind a bit of a chat, and serve excellent food at a very reasonable price.
Good selection of music too. Loud enough to hear, but not so loud you have to shout over it. Quiet enough to talk at conversation level, but not so quiet all you hear is an annoying 'thud-thud-thud' in the background.
If all that's not enough to commend them, they have a 'Pay if forward' scheme, where you can pay for an extra coffee for someone who's down on their luck, and they'll match that with one of their own. Apparently, this scheme is so successful that they're able to feed (not just coffee) lots of people who need a helping hand.
I think they just about have it right. Do...
Read moreThe best cafe in Launceston! There is no other place in the city where you get quite so warm a welcome, and just the best service possible. Food options are plentiful and all delicious, and you won't find a finer cup of coffee. The cafe itself is quirky and labyrinthine, what looks like a tiny little frontage stretches back and upstairs to provide a wealth of seating experiences. I love the comfy sofas and fairy lights upstairs, and there's ample outdoor seating for the warmer weather or those with dogs, underneath some beautiful large trees so shady spots are still available, because... you know... the Tassie sun can still burn you to a cinder even when there's snow down to 200m! It's advisable to book if you have a larger party or want food, as this place gets understandably busy. Other benefits to this cafe are that cash is most welcome (in fact, preferred), and they operate a 'pay it forward' system for the homeless. If you're looking for good food, drinks, atmosphere, and a slice of warm Tassie hospitality, this...
Read moreHad an amazing experience at Samuel Pepys Coffee! The food was fantastic, with great vegetarian options that didn’t disappoint. We had two full plates and two coffees, and the total came to $67—great value for the quality and portion sizes.
The highlight, though, was the service. The staff were incredibly attentive, and our waiter was absolutely hilarious, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. There’s also plenty of seating upstairs, so finding a spot isn’t an issue.
I also love how inclusive the menu is, catering to people with all types of dietary restrictions, which is a huge plus.
If I had to point out one small downside, it would be that the interior could use a bit of a refresh to make it feel cosier. Coming from an interior designer’s perspective, I think a little renovation would really elevate the space. But overall, a fantastic spot that I’d...
