The service was excellent, however the food was so overpriced and so mediocre. The chicken bites were exponentially worse than kfc, and cost 20 bucks. Im not a fan of fast food so this should be telling. They were dry, and the batter was some nonexistent cornflake deal. The duck risotto cost $36 and tasted of bland stock, with chewy shredded duck. The signature calamari salad dish was a saucy mess, and the calamari wasn't fresh, probably frozen after tasting proper calamari in Freycinet. I would recommend this place for vegans/vegetarians, they have a good menu selection. Its interesting to see their previous response to this. Its highly reflective of why their food is like this. "Covering inner city costs" im sure sydney is a lot more expensive, but the dishes are half the price. Their justification means nothing, their food was just forgettable. Thanks for the response! Dont fall for it peeps. Look at the owner's infallible response. I tustled on the feathers of a restaurant manager who focuses on the finances, and not the quality of the food. Sydney has higher rent, and a more competitive job market. There's also more competition so it's inevitable that the quality will be better for the price. However whatever you guys have done is a disservice to your expensive Tasmanian produce, a shame really. Dont emotionally information dump me with usless info. Infallible, insufferable, self-righteous and out of touch. This place is a hard skip.

The absolute worst place that I visited during my trip to Launceston. While the Donzelle was a delicious starter, it's not hard to fry dough and salt it. The second I was seated all I could think about was the ridiculous amounts of lights in the medium sized restaunt, i felt as if I needed sunglasses or a weilding helmet to see. Despite this, I was excited to try the Tasmanian soy poached salmon and my company ordered the salmon again and the pork belly, it took 50minutes since ordering for our mains to come out and when they did it was a disaster. The both of the salmon "slabs" were like rock, it looked okay from afar but I stabbed it with fork then hit the whole piece against my plate, it did not break. It was like a cement bar.... I've had well done salmon but this was next level horrible. It was as if they had been cooking for the whole 50 minutes it took to be made additionally I was missing my brocolini and was not informed of any shortages . On the other hand the pork belly was nice and well cooked but after the salmon... disappointment. I was not waiting another 50 minutes for their chef to figure out how to poach salmon. For a $42 dish that was unacceptable.

The restaurant had great atmosphere, but that’s where the positive ends. Food came slow, servings were petite and quality of the food definitely does not warrant the price tag. The sour dough bread was decent, but it was destroyed by the amount of salt they’ve massaged into the butter. It’s like Saltbae works there and he’s doing overtime or something. Lamb ragu Linguini that had to be changed to spaghetti because they had no any other pastas available…. It was so bland I wanted to add that saltbae butter for seasoning. Pesto pizza was just ok. Pork belly was probably best dish of the night, because it was normal, besides the serving size made it looks like it’s from the kids menu. Last but not least the mushroom sides, well saltbae made his return again with this dish. I had to eat it with the spaghetti so I don’t pass out from the salt. After this atrocity, we ran across the road to Jaffar kebab to get some churros for desserts.

Do not waste your time on a venue with sydney pricing who can not be bothered honouring a pre-booked sitting.

We got there for our reservation and ordered cocktails while we waited for our last guest to arrive. 20 mins later, still no drinks. Instead, we are informed that the kitchen is no longer going to serve unless we wanted pizza. Our guest arrived just in time for us to rebook into Rupert and Hound, who graciously except us. We were happy with our change. See Rupert and Hound review for details.

Response to the Metz: Please be advised that I was one of the man sitting at the table wondering why we were being told that despite having a dinner booking the kitchen was not going to be serving us other than pizza unless we could order and recieve our full sitting inside 30 minutes. If we had been made aware on arrival we would have had the opprtunity to take the time in deciding what option we would like to take. Further to this, any indiscreprencies with booking times is between you and our host.

I am sorry that you feel this review has been harsh however, all I can do is review the brief experience I had. I hope your team can move forward and take this as a simple learning experience on how to best approach a situation such as this in the future.

For future reference, a simple apology is the appropriate response to my review, not false allegations on my personal...

Booo! Horrible!! Overly priced pub food. Avoid at all costs!!

I'll leave my original review above for reference but I have added a star. One star for the chap who served us and one star for the chicken ribs entree which were pretty incredible to be fair.

Here's what I look for in a restaurant- value portion taste

Good restaurants will get two of these checked off and great restaurants will get all three.

Last night I had the Pad Thai. To be frank, the dish lacked soul. It was a mess of ingredients overcooked and thrown on a plate. To my above points I'm not sure a larger portion would have saved it but I would suggest you have a look at reducing the price.

My partner had the hoisin duck. The duck was overcooked but that's not really my criticism. The sauce was way too overpowering, it either needs to be toned down or not put so much on the plate. To be honest, you could have traded out the duck for any other protein and no one would be able to tell the difference.

We checked many restaurants online before settling at The Metz and our decision came because we found what sounded like an amazing dish, Lamb shoulder with gnocchi. Alas this wasn't on the menu when we sat down and going through your website today to price match the items we had I have a feeling the menu on there isn't your...
