If you want to experience how the life runs in the homeless shelter Cornwall Hotel is your choice. With all respect to the historical building it is currently horrible place to stay. Place is crowded. The rooms are packed with mattresses, people and their belongings. Not only rooms but also common areas. They cook, sleep, eat, play, chat on the phones and do their everyday routine right there. Imagine the smell of body odour mixed with a smell of scabies treatment. Room opposite to our hosted 7 people and they were arguing about something in foreign language. Not sure if this place heard about Covid safety practices. In addition, the beds looked like someone already slept on them before us (photo attached). We received twin room instead of queen. There was no receptionist to talk to. We didn’t feel safe or comfortable in this place and checked out 2 hours after checking in traumatised by the experience. Please think twice if you want to stay there.

Booked my stay here for Sunday night through Expedia and regret that decision wholeheartedly. Bad and very limited parking options for guests. Lobby was unattended at the time we arrived and reception staff was very blaze. I made an error with our original booking online as an option (I clearly searched Expedia for Sunday afternoon booking and was still given a room only available from 13th) and as discount hotels go, no refunds available. I even tried to negotiate paying the difference for another room this evening and reception reluctantly looked for a room to no avail. No empathy or sympathy for our plight. Based on our brief and unfortunate experience, I cannot recommend this overpriced budget motel.

We had 3 rooms booked for a 2 night stay from 1st November which we booked through Booking.com. We checked into the Cornwall Hotel approximately 3.30pm on the 1st November. Upon arrival we were greeted by a pleasant staff member which gave us our keys.||We all went to our rooms & were all very disappointed upon entering.||The smell of filthy stained carpet , very tired & marked Furniture & the bathroom was appalling.||Mould on the walls & stains that look like vomit & urine up the walls .||The stainless steel shower was like a men’s urinal & was also dirty. Nothing like the pictures on the advertising.||Why we didn’t just leave right then & there I don’t know.||Looking for a positive I guess & hoping things would get better .||We stayed in our room for approximately 1 hour before venturing out for a walk to the park followed by dinner together .||We returned to the hotel at approximately 9pm . We climbed into bed shortly after & were hearing constant doors opening & closing , lots of people talking in the corridors so it was very hard to relax.|| Around 9.30pm very loud Alarms were going off in the corridor & the yelling & shouting began.||I opened the door to see many people running down the corridors & unsavoury people yelling and swearing up & down the hall. These people were Caucasian males.||This was the final straw . We got changed ,packed our bags along with our family members & went down stairs . Where we were greeted by the fire brigade & a lot of chaos, no sign of any staff at all .||We went outside where we stood for the next 15 minutes or so & still no staff .||No direction , no evacuation plan , nothing . We made the decision to leave the keys in the lock box on the counter.||As I was waiting for my husband to bring the car to the front of the hotel to load all our luggage I saw a man behind the counter through the window from outside. I went in & asked if he was the manager in which he responded yes.||I proceeded to tell him we were checking out as we were not happy with our rooms & what we had witnessed in the 1 1/2 hours of our stay there.||We felt unsafe & the rooms were just filthy as well as people yelling obscenities in the corridors . He proceeded to yell at me & asked me what room numbers I had & made me feel very uncomfortable . I told him the keys were put in the box there & that we had three rooms .||He moved to the front of the counter & in my face telling me I was racist & proceeded to yell at me & inciting what I believe may have been workers living in the building sitting in the foyer by saying I hated them & was racist ! This was so wrong! ||He was out of control and very rude.||He asked what’s wrong with the room. I started telling him & he wanted me to show him.||I followed him along with my elderly father up the stairs & down the corridor where he continued to yell & scream to people in the corridors that I hated them & was racist which I replied , “How dare you say that, I’ve never said such things.”||I started videoing him for my protection because I felt unsafe.||We got to the room & he turned towards me & snatched my phone off me in an aggressive manner. I demanded he give it back and he threw it at me. I can send this video to you.||I said I am calling the police & he turned again & stormed off back downstairs. He threatened he was going to call police which I said please do. ||||We left after he told my father and I to “get out”. We waited to see if the police were attending. We spoke with the fire brigade officers who witnessed some of this “manager’s” behaviour. They told us they get called there often and told us they sympathise with us.||We stayed in another hotel & so glad we did , a complaint has been lodged with the hotel chain for his aggressive & abusive behaviour & false...

We had exactly the same experience as Al’s review below, I really don’t know how these scamsters are still operating in a country like Australia. I’m just grateful that we got away with all of our luggage unlike some of the unlucky guests in previous reviews. "As you'll be aware your room is right above a nightclub so you might hear some loud dance music from 10pm onwards" the receptionist told us straight after she swiped our credit card. I'm 100% positive that we were not made aware of this previously otherwise we would've booked one of the non-nightclub rooms. 1km later after passing hundreds of seemingly empty rooms (that weren't positioned directly above a nightclub) we arrived at our dungeon at the very end of the hallway. I don't have time to describe the condition of the room but suffice to say, the first convicts at Port Arthur probably enjoyed better living conditions - they weren't subjected to 90s rave music remixed by a tone-deaf DJ whilst they were trying to go to sleep after all. We finally fell asleep at 5am when the “music” came to a halt and subsequently slept through our 7am alarms and missed our Cradle Mountain tour bus. Luckily we woke up at 10am so we were still able to check out of the “hotel” by 11 and get on with our holiday. Just when we thought we’d escaped this establishment relatively unscathed, we had an additional $50 charged to our credit card for ‘late check out’ even though we were not made aware of the unreasonably early check out time (10am) when we arrived or when we handed in our keys on the way out. Hands down the worst hotel or backpackers I have...

Upon arrival this place looked awesome. I took lots of photos of the foyer. Then we were given the keys to our room & everything turned south. The room itself was bearable, but the bathroom was atrocious. Black shower curtain which to me means ‘we don’t have to clean it because the mould & stains won’t be visible’. The sink was so stained that it looked like it hadn’t seen a scourer in a long time. The chipboard on the legs of the basin was visible & water damaged. The toilet was facing the side of the sink & there was almost no leg room to sit on the loo. My partner is very tall & there’s no way he could have used that loo. So we asked for a new room & we’re given the one right next door. Bathroom was a lot better (glass screen) but still by no means modern. However much more leg room to use the loo, but unfortunately it wasn’t bolted down to the floor, so every time I used it I almost fell sideways. The vanity still had chipboard legs that should have been replaced long ago. ‘Boutique’ by no means. Aircon had issues getting up to a warm temperature, we had to pull the doonas from the bunk beds in the room to put on our queen bed. We stayed 3 nights only because we knew we wouldn’t get a refund. Would give 1 star but the fact we got a free room upgrade I give it an extra star. Photos online are so misleading, I wouldn’t ever...
