Alex Canteen — Restaurant in Melbourne

I was looking for a place to have brunch, just happened to walk by Alex Canteen, had a look inside, and immediately thought this was the one... Well, I can now say it was the right choice The place is beautiful & modern, staff is extra friendly, there are quite many food & drink options, and it's good! I personally had pork pho (soup noodles), one of the main Vietnamese specialties, and theirs (along with banh mi, spring rolls, rice paper rolls, which they have too indeed) As a drink, if you like coffee I would recommend their Vietnamese coffee, I know it's famous too (I've traveled in Vietnam for a month), but if you don't, like me, there are plenty of other options (I had an avocado smoothie) They even have some croissants & muffins (I had the almond croissant) The chef has traveled a lot, one waitress could speak some French, they were all super friendly Basically, no matter you're Vietnamese or a foreigner, you'll be happy to have found this...

I am still on the search for the best bahn mi of Melbourne. Today, I tried the one from Alex Canteen, opposite the Queen Victoria Market, and unfortunately it was disappointing. The pork crakeling bahn mi was dry, with no much veggies nor mayo. Although I asked for spicy, it wasn't. The bread was a bit chewy and wasn't crispy. The taste of the pork was fine but it had chunks of fat, unpleasant. There was an excess of juices from the pork that made the bread be soaked and soft, again unpleasant (see pics). The bm came with ice coffe which was delicious but I had 3 sips and that was all, the rest was all ice. $16 the combo but only the bm was $11. Overpriced comparing with other places and it's not worth it. The good thing was that they have hand sanitizer on each table. Well done!!

When I first rocked up to Alex Canteen I was skeptical but when I locked eyes with the owner Mr Alex he was very respectful kind and treat me like one of his family members I appreciate not only him but his team for treating me with respect compassion and kindness towards myself as a customer and gave excellent recommendations in terms of the egg and bacon so nice it was singing in my tummy as it went down I will recommend everybody that wants a great experience and affordable breakfast before the rush of the market or on a quiet day with sunny weather thankyou MR Alex and I’m glad I could donate $2.20 towards your wonderful shop thankyou for helping out the people that need help and others who are...
