Tasty but disappointly slow.
We wanted to enjoy Basil Leaf Pho but unfortunately it took over an hour from placing our order using the QR code (7.11pm) for our food to start coming out. We ordered chicken skewers for an entree, a beef pho and a mock meat laksa. The pho arrived 8.19pm, laksa 8.21pm.
It was only when we went up to ask about the wait were we told that the noodles can be cooked quickly but the chicken skewers would take time. Then we were asked whether it was ok if the mains came first. So basically if we hadn't ordered our entree, we would have been eating 30 minutes ago?? This is something we would have appreciated knowing earlier so we could make a decision about whether to stay, and have mains arrive first, or go.
The server/cashier was very apologetic and props to him because our food arrived in like 10 mins after he followed up with the kitchen. But it shouldn't have come to that. It's frustrating to see people seated after you getting their orders first, or other tables getting dessert before you even get a drink.
Overall, I would strongly suggest fixing the understaffing/better managing customer expectations so that the food can get the attention it deserves. I also want to thank the server/cashier for the way he handled our complaint. It was probably stressful (I don't think we were the only ones facing this issue) but he wasn't combative. He deferred to us, asking what we would like to do and then liased with the kitchen to get our food out.

Some vegan, some vegetarian, some just plainly starving.
A cosy little outcrop in busy Brunswick Street, accommodates the group to gastronomic satisfaction.
What do I order? Just ask Anh, the wonderful owner of this place. What too much roti? She will give you advice. Yes, she could make money from you and fill you up, but you will miss out on the delectable delights of Asia.
It is a real family business as old as the restaurant‘s daughter she tells us. This I s her second child.
She loves this child I think equivalently to her real child. She gives customers love care and affection. Speak to her.
Beyond feeding the hungry here she supports charity groups locally and abroad - feeding the stomach, feeding the soul.
As predicted and advised, all the dishes were wonderful. A human menu that feeds the stomach and the heart.
Not many restaurants in Melbourne left where there is this level of connection between the proprietor...
Read moreIt pains me to write a bad review .But it’s important to be honest in how upon reflection the experience was . First though ,commend the wonderful service and overall atmosphere. The lanterns attracted me and was expecting great authentic things . The Singapore noodles seafood were over salted /heavy on msg . One solitary prawn (not fresh ) placed on top over other inedible seafood items . Sorry to say but I had to throw the meal away and I do not like wasting food . Broccoli pieces were small and over cooked although I did eat those. Lived in Singapore for 2 years so do understand a bit of Asian food culture . The sugar cane prawn entree I did eat and enjoy . The service was wonderful no problem with that . And receiving the 2 mandarins as a complimentary treat was lovely . However for the overall price of $35 Lunch takeaway I feel this can be improved upon in...
