Cool Bean Kitchen - Burger Bar — Restaurant in Melbourne

Having seen the photos and read the reviews, we were really keen to try this for ourselves. The place is nicely fitted out but I think that's where it ended for us.

The young girl serving us was completely lifeless and expressionless and didn't acknowledge anything we said so we feared our orders would be wrong. We were right on that one: I asked for beetroot and tomato to be added to my burger and that didn't happen. We asked for the whipped cream not to be added to the 'gorilla' shake but also for it to have ice cream added (which we would have been happy to pay for, even with it already being $12), neither of which she seemed to instruct the kitchen of. My partner asked SEVERAL times whether the beef in the taco salad was minced or grilled, stating that she doesn't want it if it's minced. Without getting a straight answer, she still took the risk and ordered it. Sure enough, the disgusting taco salad had minced beef (hamburger meat!) rather than slow-cooked beef or grilled beef strips.

The sriracha chicken burger was fine if you're into really fat and protein heavy meals with creamy sauce dripping through your fingers as you eat.

The 'gorilla' shake was a joke! Don't be fooled by the fancy photos online. You'd at least expect at $12 for the shake to be thick. This was basically a barely even cold, overly sweet milkshake, dressed up with a piece of muffin as a lid on the glass and some bits and bobs of sweets to make it look fancy. There was some disgustingly sweet cake icing smeared on the outside of the glass in order to stick on more lollies. Bler! As already mentioned, the expressionless waitress failed to tell the kitchen that we wanted extra ice cream and didn't want the whipped cream but that was ignored. She must have been lying or ill-informed when telling us the shake comes with ice cream; if that were true, it would have at least been cold!!!

We got home and both collapsed onto the couch and into an hour's coma, our bodies struggling to digest the meal and still bloated many hours later. I know others love this sort of food, but if you generally eat healthily, this meal might hit you hard too and for what it is, it's a little hard on the pocket too.

First off, I’ve been wanting to come here for such a long time after seeing photos on Instagram. But unfortunately, I have NEVER encountered such a negative experience!

The exact second we walked through the doors with my assistant dog the lady at the counter pointed to the door and said “that dog is not allowed inside”. She didn’t even let me explain OR talk until I asked her if she was going to let me speak.

I explained that he is an assistant dog, I even showed her his paperwork, . After confirming with the owner she allowed us to sit inside.

The burger flipper in the back with the blonde hair and man bun sitting on his high horse made it VERY clear that he didn’t want us in there. He basically yelled saying “WHY IS THAT DOG STILL IN THERE?!” to the lady who first spoke to us. “Why are you the manager if you’re not going to do your job?”

We sat down, and I just wanted to get a refund and leave. I felt so uncomfortable being there.

Once we received the fried chicken burgers, they were presented nicely, but pretty dry. So dry that my jaw started getting tired of chewing.

I will never step foot in the Cool bean kitchen ever again.

Was one of my fav burger places until tonight. The chicken in my burger was burnt,over cooked and saturated in oil. Very unpleasant to eat. One of the house burgers orderd, the bottom of the bun was stone cold, felt like it just came out of a freezer defrosted. Sorry guys, I'm over and out..

Update: recieved a reply through the uber app regarding my complaint. They suggested i come pick my order rather than having it delivered!! If i can remind you, that my review was not about my food being cold. It was about an overcooked piece of chicken. Burnt and full of oil. The burger bun on the house burger - the burger ingredients itself was the right temperature, i was complaining about the burger bun being cold and soggy. As mentioned, it had the texture of a defrosted burger bun. These faults would of made no difference if i picked my order and bought them home rather than...
