Where do i begin with Don dons, in my short 20 years of growing up in Melbourne I've never come across a restaurant with better value for money, its a shame its taken so long to find one. Don Dons menu simple but busting with flavour reflects how each dish brings its own unique flavour to the table and nothing seems the same. when it comes to the portion sizes unbelievable, you can purchase karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and a serving of rice each in their own container loaded with chives and Japanese mayo for around $7 nothing can compete, appearance reflects on the flavour and for $7 its its still so hard for me to come to the realisation of the value these meal. the restaurant small but offers a great outside area to sit while you wait for your meal with a nice array of tables and chairs. the inside not over the top but welcoming with with the staff well lit interior. the speedy service and care thats placed into the meals reflects on the employees that work there and represents that they have respect for their customers and take pride in the establishment they work at which is hard to come by with most restaurants and the cherry on top is the $3 vb stubbies honestly what doesn't don...
Read moreThis has got to be Melbourne's best kept lunch time dining experience. Don Don takes fast food to the next level. Arrive at 12:15 and you'll see a line of local office workers extending out the door, but don't panic. There's an unwritten etiquette required to dine here. Move to front of the line, order items, let them know if it's eat in or take away, then move to the right and wait for your food. Incredibly, before you've had a chance to put your wallet away, they are calling you to the counter to collect your meal.
Don Don has a small menu of classic Japanese curries and bento boxes, that doesn't' disappoint The price is also not going to break the bank either, with everything under $10, you won't find a better budget dining experience in Melbourne.
You owe it to yourself to stop here at least one for lunch if you're in the area. Once you tried it once...
Read moreIm not sure if they have changed the ownership otherwise I would give 5 stars. The curry sauce tastes a little bland and the pickles are yellow which tastes different to the red. Hopefully it was just a one time shortage on supplies! I will go back as I've been coming here for years.
Update They have the red pickles again which tastes better so im glad its back! I ordered the Vegan soba noodles, its a cold dish with lettuce, tomatoes, tofu, zucchini, they give a slice of apple and orange. I think it's my new favourite!
Curry Sauce Update My parents went back 1 week ago and the Curry was back to its original full flavour, I believe it depends which staff is on duty and they possibly make the sauce according to their own taste buds! No idea but that was a...
