What strikes you first about the Australian Turkish Friendship Memorial is the large sweeping wreath made of interwoven stainless steel strands and the two granite stone seed cones (seeds of friendship). These represent a pine from Turkey and an Australian Casuarina seed. They lay side by side to represent the ‘Johnnies and Mehmets’ who fought and lost their lives in Gallipoli. The wreath and the two seed cones sit on a circular ground plane with compelling inscriptions taken from both a Turkish and Australian perspective. Charles Bean articulates a nation’s pride in the bravery of its fallen men, while Mustafa Kemal Atatürk offers words of comfort to the mothers who lost their sons at Gallipoli. Because of its simplicity yet beauty and the messages encapsulated within it, to my mind, this is one of the most beautiful war memorial sculptures in the Kings Domain Gardens.

This statue or memorial here in the kings domain park is dedicated to present the long lasting turkish-australian friendship. If you desire, you can find benches or a lawn nearby, where you can sit and enjoy the nature and the silence. Beautiful place, like an oasis of peace at the middle of a metropolitan city, locked away from all the vibes of the daily work. Fill you with peace and energy

Beautiful gardens, nice combination of plants/flowers. The monument is a piece made by Turkish/aussie arquitect Serdar Baycan.
