We went there 5 friends for Sunday Breakfast. Coffee was great but had little communication issues with Georgia, while I was the first person on line waiting for service she passed by me and spoke with 2 gentlemen behind me and seated them first which I sad that might be because they were in rush and leave it. I have asked for table and she told me that they can seat me outside and I have asked for a seat next to a heater but she told me that they don’t have any space on the heater side( and they have head count on garden and garden is full) and while I was waiting she put 2 people to completely empty communal table. So I didn’t understand that please correct me about head count at garden if I am wrong. We have ordered 5 different dishes. Portion size are great: Benedict has really good hollandaise sauce, like the bacon quality and portion as well. Pulled Lamb was great but lamb was dry at some points. Mushroom dish had great variety of mushrooms but maybe more cheese on top. Avocado dish was awesome, it is enough for 2 people and has 1 full Avocado on top. Least favourite item was chili crab scrambled eggs which was the only one that we didn’t finish that dish. Generally food was great but definitely needed more seasoning.

Hi this is a good fancy cafe I liked everything there before I move on to anything I going to do the food and tea 1st. The tea was good and amazing I liked how their made it I mean this is the 1st cafe that I have jasmine tea so 9/10 maybe more spicy I know that their regular jasmine tea does not have spicy but I would recommending for jasmine tea to have a little bit of spicy. My buttermilk chicken burger tasted so good lemme start with the burger nice flavour to the dish I liked the chicken someone told me that their popular dish and I liked it and the chips more like potato I think it will be good if it crunchy but overall the burger is the good dish but the potato can be more crunchy so that dish I give today is a 8/10 so the total is 16/20 so out of 100% 84% over all. For the service the tea and coffee was like 5 10 minutes and the food was 45 minutes so maybe 4 more people for the service will be a great start so I give the service a 8/10 and the company was a great but I would recommend more Furniture’s because some people feel embarrassed when sitting with other people. So I recommend more furniture I give the company a 7/10. Food out of 5 is 4 service 4 company 4

This place is often touted as one of the best cafes in Melbourne, which holds true if they specialize in coffee, which is impeccable. However, the food was the worst experience I've ever had in Melbourne. We had made an online reservation for a table for four but ended up sharing a high table with other customers. This was especially concerning because we risked incurring a no-show fee of $15 per person. To avoid this fee, we invited another friend to join us since one of our friends wasn't feeling well. We arrived at the cafe at 11:30 and placed our food order around 11:40. Unfortunately, our food didn't arrive until 12:25. In the meantime, everyone around us received their orders, even those who hadn't ordered when we did. We had to ask one of the "friendly" staff members to check on our order. He returned at 12:10, saying it would take another 6 minutes. However, this delay was not met either. When our food finally arrived, we were excited by the beautiful presentation, but the taste was a huge disappointment. I ordered lamb ribs with papaya salad, but what I received resembled lamb belly with an excessive amount of fat (I've attached a photo). My friend ordered the beef burger, but the beef tasted like beef jerky. Another friend ordered fried chicken, which was equally disappointing. It consisted of three pieces of thinly crumbed and overly deep-fried chicken breast, dry and tasteless. The fourth dish was vegetarian, and the friend who ordered it found it to be just okay. When it came time to pay the bill, I expected the staff to ask how everything was, allowing me to provide feedback in person. However, they simply took my money and walked away. Overall, based on my experience, I appreciate their coffee, the lovely interior, and the beautiful outdoor space. However, the food didn't meet my expectations, and the background music was excessively loud.

It was a horrible experience such a terrible place to be at. I don’t even want to give any rating. One star is not even worth. What a waste of time. I don’t know why people are queuing up for food here. Made a booking for 2 for brunch at 11am. arrived and waiting for service while had to flag down the waitress to get their attention for the booking. Then got sat down inside at the corner and place an ordered orange juice it took 20 mins to get the drink. Then waited again for a long time to get the waitress to take our food order. We order two maple bacon Benedicts. How hard is it to make poached eggs and bacon. Our food did not arrive at all while all the tables around us got food. And I timed it. First i waited 40 mins then ask the waitress what is the update on the food. I have been here for a while. She checked the kitchen and was told 10 mins more. By then I was starving. Okay so waited another 10 still no food. Ask again the waitress then was told another 2 mins. Waited another 10 mins still no food. So seriously for 1 1/2 hours waiting we had orange juice and a coffee. To be honest the service is terrible no apology and a very blaśe approach to explaining what caused the delays with our food it was just a simple eggs and bacon. I would not recommend this place at all. It is a waste of time, I still don’t understand why would anyone wait in line for a place to eat here. When there are so many other good options available else with a better service than here. It is also too loud inside not a comfortable place to have catch up with friends.

2022 boxing day: Why do you do this Kettle Black? Seated at the communal table, we were asked if we'd like still or sparkling water and were served still when we asked for sparkling. The seasonal avocado treats avocado like it's truly seasonal - there just isn't enough to go around for the 2 large slices of sourdough. My chilli scramble was basic and fine but that's to be expected from all the Darling group cafes. As usual the coffees were the redeeming factor. Service I've found is always a 'it depends' thing and that hasn't changed. Perhaps like the last time we visited we should have taken away and eaten at the park. 2021 lockdown era review : I've had mixed experiences with The Kettle Black before but everything was wiped clean with the takeway experience. Sunday afternoon had me craving comfort and we got a couple of coffees, a cinnamon bun and a chilli dog from their pop up barbeque. The coffees as usual were on point and the chilli dog was sinfully brilliant, messy as required and immensely satisfying. Toasted bun, spicy pork sausage and a chilli packed with flavour all topped with a cheese sauce. Well played, Kettle Black!
